WELCOME BACK TO THE NEWLY WRITTEN HASHIRE (that I unpublished bc gosh it was so embarrassing)!!! much happier with gon and killua in this one, younger me had no self restraint I swear. also the plot was miserable like??? come on. Um if you did read the older Hashire fic, I do want to say that this fic will be generally similar but there's a LOT that is changing. I am older and know more about the world and not as angst-driven so plot will actually exist now 💀

also at the second chapter break when gon first appears plz listen to this song on loop: https://open.spotify.com/track/02SsJkdg7xwugvXXxmyJQz?si=f3c7ac104ee14786

it's the twinleaf town soundtrack!!! twinleaf my beloved. Completely captures the ambiance of the scene and I like promoting pokemon soundtracks sue me.

anyways thanks for reading this far haha ily I HOPE YOU ENJOY 😭😭

PS: I have this posted on AO3 (under the same username) and prefer if you read there!!! It's so much easier to upload aha. anyways have fun yippie

Despair fills the gaping hole in his chest. He stares hopelessly at the blue eyes that were once full of childish mirth. A whimper pitifully crawls up his throat. Shock.

He's in complete shock. He has to be dreaming because there is no way this is happening. There's no way he let this happen. He stares. He stares, and continues to stare, pleading with himself to wake up, but the pain is too vivid. Too real. So is the figure standing in front of him, eyes more empty than the ones staring at him, as dull as his heart.

He snarls. The figure doesn't even flinch. "You aren't an animal, Killu. Stand up."

His eyes become slits and there's a loud ringing in his ears. He can't hear what his brother- what this person is saying. This person has long since lost the right to be his brother.

The growl in his throat doesn't taper off, not that he's trying to stop it, anyway. The fur on his tail and skin is standing on end, and he's now standing up straight, trying to make himself bigger. Illumi tilts his head.

"You're pathetic. This is why I had to get rid of it. Attachments, I warned you about them, little brother. You grew too attached."

"You monster !" His voice echoes. His voice stays low, yet the strength in it is unwavering."I will never forgive you."

He's panting, jaws straining and fingers clenching as his fangs grow ever so sharp and nails more pointy. Kill Kill Kill is chanted in his head- his mind screams for blood but he knows better. The second he lashes out is the second he loses. It's infuriating because he knows the person in front of him knows exactly that.

Illumi shrugs. "I don't want or need your forgiveness." He walks past him dismissively. "I expect you back in the dungeon after ten minutes. A second late and you won't leave for the rest of the week."

He's frozen in place until Illumi closes the doors. Killua immediately moves to shatter the camera, and after getting rid of the device, he glances around. No hidden cameras. He focuses back on the body in front of him.

"Nanika," he whispers, so quietly, so hesitantly. "Come out."

It takes a second, but the familiar black aura encases his baby sister. The cold that surrounds him almost reeks of misery.

Black swirls akin to a child's drawing meet his eyes sadly. Her mouth is wobbling. Tears stream down Nanika's face.

"Killua..."

His heart clenches painfully. He finally relaxes, but shortly tenses again for a different reason. He cradles Nanika in his arms and sobs silently as the horror finally settles in. His body vibrates with the urge to run after Illumi and rip his throat out- but... he can't bring himself to separate from his sister.
