For three deadly seconds, I was paralyzed at the top of the ladder, my brain still processing the image that lay before me. Dreamer's limp body. The lethal knife. The crimson blood. I was no stranger to gore on movie sets, but this wasn't a movie set. It was real.

Dreamer, the kind and brave girl I had just talked to the other day, was dead.

Eden: ...

Eden: ...

Eden: ...

Dead?

No...

No, surely she wasn't dead.

There was still a chance she could be alive.

Right?

Trying to force down the bile creeping up in my throat, I climbed over the gap in Dreamer's door and rushed over to her body, placing two of my fingers on her neck to feel for a pulse. However, the only thing I felt was the coldness of her skin. I then stole a glance at her face and saw the way her half-open eyes were staring into nothingness. Saw the way her formerly vibrant pink lips had turned a shade of pale blue instead. Saw the way her slightly agape mouth leaked out a small stream of red life essence.

And that's when it finally hit me.

Dreamer was truly no longer of this world.

Even though she was laying right next to me, the soul that had once piloted her body was gone. All that remained was a slab of flesh, slowly leaking out the blood it once used to survive.

Starting to hyperventilate, I turned away from the corpse and started pacing around the room. I couldn't look at it anymore. Couldn't face the reality that the killing game had started. That Monocavy had won. After half a minute of panic, though, I knew that I couldn't just stay in here forever. As per the rules, there would be an investigation. And then a class trial where all of our lives were on the line. As horrified as I was, there was no time to lose. Because as far as I knew, the killer could be destroying evidence at this very moment.

Dazed, I unlocked the door to Dreamer's room and jogged my way to the dining hall. Before I could make it to my destination, though, I spotted Chaos and Oof talking in front of the latter's dorm.

Chaos: Oh, hey, Eden! Back from your talk with...

Chaos paused the moment he saw the look on my face.

Chaos: Um... did something happen?

Eden: ...

Eden: Dreamer is... someone broke into her room and... she's...

I closed my eyes and pinched the bridge of my nose.

Fuck... why is this so hard to say? Dreamer is dead. Someone broke into her room and killed her. She's gone. They're just words, Eden. Just spit them out.

Chaos: She's... she's dead?

I looked back up and saw Chaos' terrified expression. It seems he got the message anyway, huh.

Chaos shoved me to the side and began sprinting towards Dreamer's room, leaving me and Oof alone.

Oof gripped his forehead with his right hand, as if he was in pain.
