"Thank you again for stopping by, I'll be awaiting your call," I smiled, closing the door to the house I was selling.I pulled my tight skirt down and headed back upstairs to gather my things after a long day of viewing. I arrived at 10am and was just leaving at 5, surprised my boss didn't inform me that the house was in high demand.
Today was a bit draining to say the least, and whenever that happens, I start needing a drink. I gathered my things and headed to my car, mentally deciding to go to the luxury bar downtown to treat myself.
The soft hum of the central air filled my apartment and I sighed in contentment, looking around at the life I had been working so hard for.
I took a nice bath, did my makeup, touched up my hair and rummaged through my closet for a beautiful outfit.
Ultimately, I decided upon the Tiana white ruffle rosette dress I had in my closet that I had ordered a few months prior. Heads would definitely turn tonight.
"God you're bad as fuck," I giggled, my tongue covering my teeth, staring at myself in the standing mirror. After slipping on my heels, I made my way to the parking lot, hopping in my car and driving to the bar downtown.
"Am i delusional, or is everyone gawking at me?" I thought, entering the bar filled with people. "Probably delusional but I look hot either way."
I ordered a drink and waited, smiling at the bartender then turning around to look at the people mingling. Some were dancing and some sat down enjoying their drinks.
I didn't mind going out alone. It was something i learnt from the advice videos I watched. I had to enjoy my own company and take myself out, not caring if people thought I looked sad and lonely. Doing this helped me stay sane.
As my eyes glossed over the crowd of people, steel blue eyes pierced into mine.
I did a double take, the mystery man's eyes never leaving mine. He sat in a dimly lit corner, bringing the glass to his lips, his stare never wavering. He had jet black hair from what I could tell and he was dressed in an all black suit, the buttons at the top open showing his gold chain. He looked me up and down, placing the glass down as his piercing eyes met mine once again.
Scoffing, I rolled my eyes. "The fuck is he looking at."
I politely thanked the bartender for the drink and was about to pay for it when the now, not so mystery man glided beside me. It was Lorenzo Rossi, he owned many businesses in Boston, the very bar we were in, included. He made Forbes' list for young hot billionaire bachelors the previous year. Don't ask me why I know that.
"Drinks on me," he informed the bartender.
"No thank you, I can pay for my own drink." I handed a twenty dollar bill to the bartender but Lorenzo put his hand in the way.
"Get going, there's some important people that need serving," he told the bartender, who responded with a nod to his boss.
I stared at the man in front of me blankly, sipping the drink he paid for. His steel blue eyes sparkled with mystery and depth. His sharp jawline could rival the finest sculptures and the smirk he had on his face while eyeing me held a charm that could melt the coldest of hearts. His presence commanded attention, his stature was tall, even with heels on, it was obvious I would have to bend my neck to look up at his specimen.
"I'm Lorenzo," he smirked, his pearly white teeth glistening in the bar's colorful lights. He expected to be hit with the typical "I know" that girls would usually follow up with but didn't hear it after and he paused. He seemed intrigued. "And you are?"
"I'm Malaya," I sighed, placing the glass on the table. I checked the time on my phone, I wasn't ready to leave but if this random man kept hovering over me, I'd have to dip.
"Sylvia Plath quote?" he asked, raising his eyebrow at the words displayed across my phone screen.
"Perhaps when we find ourselves wanting everything, it is because we are dangerously close to wanting nothing," he repeated the quote he saw.
"How'd you know," my eyebrows cocked in curiosity.
"Well, Malaya, I've read a lot of her work in the past, I hold it dear to my heart."
I looked into those striking eyes, and as usual, they were already looking into mine. He looked almost intimidating.
"What's your favorite piece of work from her?" I pressed, "let's say it together."
"The Colossus."
We both said it at the same time and I couldn't lie, I was taken aback. This filthy rich businessman and I both enjoyed reading Sylvia Plath's work. I didn't know men read, let alone read poems that change the trajectory of your life. I was ever so slightly impressed.
"You're interesting, Malaya," he uttered, my name rolling off his tongue perfectly.
"We must stay focused my brothers," Dr Umar's voice rang in my head, I couldn't let this white man make my knees buckle, he's barely even doing anything.
"What can I say," I responded, not wanting him to sense my slight nervousness. God, I couldn't deny his attractiveness, he looked young, despite being 12 years older than me.
He chuckled, the deepness of it ringing in my ear. Could he stop staring at me.
"You're stunning, sorry if i'm staring," he expressed, as though he was reading my mind. The change in compliment was refreshing, I was over men only calling me hot or fine.
"Thank you." A small smile made its way to my lips.
"What's a beautiful girl like you doing here all alone? Looking to add a few numbers to your collection?" he chuckled, cocking his head to the side. His jawline was the sharpest I'd ever seen in person.
"Quite the opposite actually." I rolled my eyes playfully. "I'm here enjoying my own company not looking to give out my number."
His eyes darted to my plump red lips and back to my eyes, a small smile on his lips.
"I hope you'll make an exception for me, will you give me your number please?" he asked, pulling out the phone in his pocket.
I stared at him in disbelief, a stoic expression on my face. Did he clearly not hear me say I was not looking to give out my number?
"No," I said, finishing my drink and placing it on the table. "I have to get going anyway, have a good rest of night Lorenzo."
I picked up my purse from the table, giving him a small smile and no time to respond as I made my way through the swarm of people to exit the bar. My hips swayed naturally and I could feel his eyes on me.
A smirk made its way to Lorenzo lips. He'd never been turn down before. He liked this challenge.
