as they strolled toward the café, rinzu couldn't help but sneak glances at ayumi. up close, she was even more stunning. her side profile framed perfectly by the soft afternoon light.
rinzu found herself mesmerized, wondering how anyone could look so effortlessly beautiful.
"—oh, and your hairstyle is so adorable!" ayumi said, breaking through her thoughts with yet another compliment. rinzu's cheeks warmed instantly, the unexpected praise catching her off guard.
ayumi had been showering her with little compliments since they met, and it made her feel both flustered and strangely happy.
"i wonder what osamu did in his past life to end up with such a gorgeous girlfriend." rinzu said, half-joking, but the awe in her voice was unmistakable.
the sophomore giggled. "i think i'm the lucky one, to be honest." she said with a soft smile, her modesty making her even more charming.
rinzu didn't know how to respond to ayumi's comment. she knew osamu back in high school, the quieter twin who never got as much attention as atsumu.
he was always kind but could be scary when he wanted to be. that was her memory of him, at least.
as they arrived at the café, the two women settled into a cozy corner booth, scanning the menu. rinzu had originally planned to study, but sitting here with ayumi, her priorities changed. studying could wait.
"my treat, okay?" ayumi offered with a bright smile. in that moment, rinzu swore she saw a halo of light behind ayumi's head. "oh, uh, alright." she stammered, suddenly determined to find the cheapest item on the menu.
she didn't want to take advantage of ayumi's kindness, but the pressure of being treated by someone so nice and beautiful was overwhelming.
as she scanned the menu, her mind raced, trying to balance being polite and not seeming too cheap. "don't worry, get whatever you want! i'm serious." ayumi added warmly.
when the waitress approached their table to take their orders, rinzu felt a slight nervousness creeping in. ayumi, however, was completely at ease as she placed her order first.
"i'll have a medium iced lavender latte with oat milk, please." she said with a sweet smile. the waitress nodded and began writing it down, but her pen suddenly slipped from her fingers, clattering to the floor.
without hesitation, rinzu quickly reached down and grabbed it, handing it back to the clearly flustered waitress. "thank you." the waitress muttered, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment.
"first day?" she asked, her voice gentle, accompanied by a reassuring smile. the waitress nodded, her nerves getting the better of her.
"yes, and i'm probably going to get a whole lecture from my coworker if she catches me panicking like this."
