Chapter: 12

Ice cream in the same flavor

If I didn't meet Randall today, I don't know how much worse my day will be.

It's true that he might come to me at the right time—the time when I was so weak and didn't know who I was able to drain some messy things in my head with—but I really can't deny that his appearance tonight changed my whole day. I believe that he didn't ask to stay with me tonight because of a sexual affair. What happened was not because of just Randall; it was because of me and because of us that made it happen.

The good feeling that I have with him has increased. If I had to say that right now, do I like Randall yet? I would say... I don't know; our situation is still hard to explain. As Randall had said, I accept that I really have my own barrier between me and him; we just know each other kind of short times, and I still can't set my feelings on him that much, but I just hope that our relationship will continue to be good like this, whatever we are in any way.

But what kind of relationship are two people able to make out like this...?

I raised my hands to cover my face when the image of us showed up in my head. With every movement and every word we said, I could also remember all the things that just happened.

That was so embarrassing.

"Are you okay, Carter?" I'm a bit flinching, hurrying to take my hands down, and looking at the person who suddenly stands beside the bed, silently.

"Yeah..." I answered with a soft voice. Randall didn't say anything but just stood, shirtless, with a smirk on his face. I avoid those eyes that look at me by saying something instead. "You need to sleep. It's already late night; aren't you tired?"

I moved to make it have a space for Randall to get on the bed by the side where he stood. We lay down by our sides, facing each other. I saw Randall's face through the light that passed through the ajar bathroom's door. The embarrassing image from a moment ago shows up in my head again to make my face get hotter.

"Tomorrow I need to go out at six in the morning; I have to take my mom to her business out of town."

"Okay, just wake me up then." I said and saw that he nodded before I closed my eyes first.

"Carter, I still don't have your number." He spoke out after having been silent for a while.

So I opened my eyes and looked at him. "Do you not sleep yet?"

"I don't have your number." He said it again, but this time he mumbled.

"I saw your phone on the desk beside my phone; I'm too lazy to go take them. Ask me again tomorrow morning."

"I can go take it for you."

"Randall, sleep." I said that again, looking directly into his eyes. He looked at me as well before his eyes closed easily, like I told him.

"Tomorrow morning, right?" I thought it would be easy... He just closed it for a second and then opened it again.

"Yes." I saw his smile through the dim light before he closed his eyes again for a second time.

"Good night."

"Um... Sleep."

Good night too, Randall.

.

"Carter... Carter." I try to open my half-closed eyes from the slight tap on my shoulder. I turned to the source of the voice before I had to wrinkle my neck because his face was too close to me. He smiled at me and moved out a bit. "Sorry, I didn't mean to make you uptight."
