I waded into the water, trying to playfully swim while Fourth just sat there on the sand, watching me. His gaze was intense, but I tried to ignore it, splashing around to lighten the mood.
Suddenly, I let out a fake scream, clutching my leg as if in pain. Fourth ran to me immediately, concern written all over his face.
“Hey, are you okay?” he asked, kneeling beside me.
A grin broke across my face, and I splashed water at him. “Gotcha!”
He blinked, realizing I had tricked him. “Oh, so you think you're funny?” he said, shaking his head, but he couldn’t hide the smile tugging at the corner of his lips. And just like that, we started splashing each other, laughing and giggling like kids.
Soon, I was shivering, my clothes soaked and clinging to my skin. Fourth wrapped his arm around me and led me back to the house, grabbing the flowers he had given me earlier.
I held them tightly, not wanting to let go. They were a part of him, a part of this moment.“You can set the flowers down, you know, and freshen up,” Fourth said once we were inside.
“No,” I replied, clutching them like they were the most precious thing in the world.
He sighed, exasperated but amused. “Fine. I’ll hold them for you. Now, go freshen up.” He took them from me, and I carefully handed them over, as if passing something fragile. He pointed me to the bathroom.
After freshening up, I came out, only to notice the flowers were gone.
“Where are the flowers?” I asked, looking around.
Fourth cleared his throat, not meeting my gaze. “You were giving them too much attention. I had to hide them.”
I raised an eyebrow. “Jealous, huh? You did buy them for me, remember?”
He didn’t answer, just pouted like a kid. His mood was light for a moment, but it didn’t last long. After dinner, we sat on the couch, and I could feel something shift. Fourth seemed so serious, so distant.
“Did you check your phone since we got here?” he asked suddenly.
I frowned, confused. “No... why?”
He didn’t answer right away, so I pulled my phone out. My heart dropped. Several missed calls and messages from Pahn. Panic set in.
“What is it?” Fourth’s voice was cold now, almost detached.
I hesitated, my palms sweating. I didn’t want to make him angry, not after everything. “It’s nothing,” I mumbled, about to set the phone aside.
But Fourth stopped me. “Call her back. Now.”
I dialed Pahn’s number, and after several rings, she picked up. She sounded worried, asking me to come home. She even begged. Guilt weighed heavy on my chest.
When the call ended, Fourth sat up straighter, crossing his arms. His face was like stone, and I could feel the anger rolling off him.
“I’m... I’m sorry,” I whispered. I didn’t know what else to say.
Fourth sighed, running a hand through his hair. “You know something? I don’t understand you at all.”
His words stung, but I stayed quiet, waiting for him to continue.
“I’m here with you because I wanted to apologize,” he said, his voice soft but pained.
My heart sped up. “Apologize? For what?”
He looked at me, eyes filled with something I couldn’t quite place. “For everything. I came into your life and ruined it. You’re a good person, Gemini. You deserve to be happy, to be a father, to have a family. And I... I ruined that for you.”
Tears slipped down my cheeks before I even realized it. “Fourth... what are you saying? Don’t... don’t do this.”
He wiped my tears with his thumb, his expression tight. “I’m saying sorry. And I’m saying goodbye.”
“Goodbye?” My voice cracked, my chest tightening painfully. “You can’t mean that. Please, don’t hurt me like this.”
He sighed heavily, looking away as if trying to hold back his own emotions. “This is the only good thing I can do for you, Gemini. You have a wife, a child on the way. I need to let you go. You need to be with your family.”
“No, no, please,” I cried, falling to my knees in front of him. “I can’t live without you. I need you, Fourth.”
“Stop,” he said, his voice breaking. “Don’t make this harder. Don’t make me regret this.”
I sobbed, reaching for him, but he pulled me to my feet, guiding me back to the couch. My whole body felt numb, my heart shattered into pieces.
“You can ask for anything right now, and I’ll do it. But I won’t change my mind,” he said, his breath shaky as he held me close.
“Anything?” I whispered, barely able to get the words out through my tears.
He nodded "Yes"
“Then... can I have you, just for tonight?”
His eyes softened, filled with sadness, but he nodded. “If that’s what you want.”
