A stepping stone is what I am
The one that leads others across oceans whereas I'm left on the shore of the island that we once lived together but now live alone
Until the next traveler comes along
Broken and torn
What they don't realize is that the healed bits of them are parts of me
Leaving me with their thorns
Unable to be plucked from my skin
Buried deeper than they'd once been in their owner's skins
Left once again on the shore
Completely powerless
Broken and torn
Never once treasured
My soul a raw opened wound
Never once realizing
That they were the ones who
Burned me deep
Leaving scars for only me to see
