The council meeting. As one by one, the Olympians flashed in, Zeus stared. He stared dully at his wife's empty throne, waiting with baited breath. We all did.
First, there were 5 of us. Then, 4 more flashed in. Then another 4. But no Hera. We waited in silence as the minutes ticked by. The Guardians stared at their friends empty chair, and the girl, Piper, sobbed into the chest of Ares' daughter, Clarisse.
Nothing happened. No one came. "Find them..." Zeus started quietly.
"Brother -" Poseidon started, but Zeus cut him off with a roar that shook Olympus to its core.
"I SAID FIND THEM!" Thunder boomed and lightening streaked across the sky in his rage. He took a breath and looked at his wife's throne once more before his form shifted into that of Jupiter, who looked forlorn at the seat of his now dead son.
"Artemis," Jupiter began, his voice firm.
"I'll begin my search at once, father." I responded, but he cut me off with a raised hand.
"You are to stay at the demigod camp. With your guardian in Tartarus currently, I do not want you to risk becoming the next casualty." Anger flooded me, but he stopped my protests with a glare.
"Hades, summon the boys' spirit." He said sullenly. Hades hesitated, looking at his brother with sympathy.
"Are you sure, brother?" IT was Hestia who had spoken, rising from her throne to place her hand over her brothers. He nodded and locked eyes with Hades.
"Bring his spirit. We must see what happened." Hades nodded and waved his hand. A chilled wind blew through the throne room, and in front of his now empty seat mirroring his father's throne, Jason's image flickered into existence. He looked around and his eyes landed on Piper first.
He reached towards her, but his legs wouldn't move, nor would his voice. He looked miserable. Piper saw him and wailed again, another wave of sobs tearing through the heartbroken warrior. Clarisse picked her up and carefully carried her out of the throne room. Jason's eyes locked with his father and he bowed.
"Rise, my son... Show us what had befallen you." He stated firmly. Jason nodded and Hades waved his hand once more, a large projection forming between them and Jason. On it, Jason's memories of his final day began to play from his perspective.
Jason
Today was already shaping up to be a really bad day. Hera had me investigating a disturbance at the site of the sacred marriage bed. She claimed there was some minor presence and sent me to go sort it out. As I trudged my way up the hill I had climbed years ago while on the quest to stop Gaea, I looked up at the palace.
