Inspiration Song: Fire & Desire by Drake

...I literally went back and forth between so many songs for this chapter...

So for funsies, I guess, you can also listen to: Cinderella by Mac Miller (feat. Ty Dolla $ign), You've Seen the Butcher by Deftones, if u think i'm pretty by Artemas, or Figure You Out by Voila

I plopped down on Jade's couch dramatically, sprawling my arm behind the back of it, "I have arrived."

"Yes, you have," she laughed and immediately wrapped her arms around my waist and snuggled into my side.

"Don't get too comfy yet. We still have to figure out what to watch and make popcorn," I laughed at her theatrical sigh.

"I did promise popcorn, didn't I?"

"You did. That's the only reason I'm here," I joked. She smacked my stomach softly and kissed my cheek as she got up and walked to the kitchen. Soon enough I heard the popping of kernels. I pulled out my phone to scroll through Instagram while I waited for Jade to return.

I checked stories first. Caitlin had shared a promo for her team's upcoming game against the Mystics tomorrow. Megan posted a picture of her coffee with Pancake looking up expectedly. Gabbie posted a screenshot of her run stats this morning. I clicked through a few more stories before Claire's popped up. She had shared the post the media team had made of us at practice this morning. She had captioned it "$$$." Hmm, I hadn't recalled her being an Aces fan when we were together in college. I swiped out of her story and started scrolling through posts when I was suddenly met with a bowl of popcorn in my face.

"Anything exciting on Instagram?" Jade asked as she sat down next to me, setting the popcorn down on her coffee table in front of us. I pushed my phone into my pocket.

"Not really," I said. "Megan posted a cute picture of Pancake, though."

"Aww, I love Pancake," she said, tossing a piece of popcorn into her mouth.

I felt the couch slightly dip as Thomas jumped onto the back of it, rubbing up against my face. I gave him a few scratches under his chin. "Hey buddy."

"Don't be fooled," Jade said with a chuckle, giving Thomas some pets of her own. "He just wants popcorn."

"I can't blame him for that one bit," I said, grabbing a handful of popcorn for myself. "So what do you want to watch?"

"Hmm," she said, scrolling through Hulu. "How about a scary movie?"

She looked too excited to turn down, even though they freaked me out. "Uh, sure."

"We can do a psychological thriller so it's not as scary if you want," she suggested, obviously sensing my hesitation.

"Deal," I smiled, releasing the tension that had built up in my body. I wanted to like scary movies, and I did, but I always got frightened. My mom said it was because of my overactive imagination as a child, but I never really grew out of how they affected me. Paranormal movies especially got to me. I learned that one the hard way.

"Ohh," she cooed, pulling up a movie. "How about Midsommar? I've heard it's pretty good."

"Sure," I shrugged. The movie started out with a tragedy. Dani, the main character, had just lost her sister, mother, and father. From there, while she's trying to cope, her boyfriend begrudgingly invites her on his friends' trip to Sweden for a midsummer festival. He seemed like a dick, if I was being honest. While in Sweden, the group does a bunch of drugs and start tripping, causing them to see and experience a wide array of crazy things. So far, the movie wasn't scary, just odd, but I couldn't seem to look away.
