Claire shrieked as I hit the gas pedal on the Slingshot. It had started to rain, and I was trying to get us back quickly, but The Red Rock Canyon was winding, and we were still a decent distance from the Strip where we rented the motorcycle. The wind was whipping around us and my adrenaline was pumping.
I shoved down my sunglasses to the bridge of my nose. The raindrops had completely covered the lenses, making them impossible to see out of.
"Kate!" Claire called, giggling. I turned my head to notice her phone out, taking a video of us. I was completely caught off guard and I knew I had to have looked like a dork in the moment. She watched the video back and snickered.
"It's bad, isn't it?"
"No, no," she assured me. "It's great. Mind if I put it on Tiktok?"
I shrugged. I wasn't on Tiktok much anymore, especially since everyone had taken to putting clips of my injury into their edits. That was a day I didn't really want to relive for many reasons.
It was Claire's last day in Vegas and she was on a mission to make sure that I explored the city with her while she was here. Her friends she had come with left already and she had extended her flight to spend some more time with me. It was nice to be connecting with her again. It was almost like nothing had changed. She was, in some ways, still my best friend.
"So, what's the plan for tonight, captain? It's your last night in Vegas." I asked as we pulled into town, slowing to a speed that allowed for conversation.
"Hmm..." she pondered. "Clubbing?"
If there was one thing Claire loved, it was going out. Claire came from a wealthy family and had always enjoyed the finer things in life. She loved her fruity drinks, fancy outfits, and high-end clubs.
Apparently, I had a type.
"I heard Zouk was good," she offered. "Have you ever been?"
"No, I haven't," I replied. Besides the few places I had been with Jade, I still hadn't really explored Las Vegas.
"You can ask some of the girls from the team to go if you want," she suggested.
I laughed, "KB and Megan would probably be the only ones that would want to go, but I think they both left to visit home. I'll text Kelsey and A'ja and see what they are doing though."

The music was pounding. I could feel the bass through the soles of my feet. It was full in here, which oddly, I was thankful for. I don't know what it was, but music so loud that I couldn't think was exactly what I needed tonight. Maybe a few drinks too. I just needed to get out of my head.
It had been a week and I still hadn't heard from Jade. I hadn't reached out either, stopping myself multiple times. I figured there was no point to hurt myself further by being ignored. She would reach out if she really wanted to talk to me.
I was taking in all the bodies dancing on each other and strobe lights when I felt Claire touch my arm. I leaned my head down to the level of her mouth so I could hear what she had to say.
"I'm going to head to the restroom. Wanna find us a spot at the bar?"
"Sure thing," I spoke loudly, trying to combat the music. I watched her walk away without a care in the world. She was an extrovert through and through and never had any problem with new people and places. I envied her for that sometimes.

Romance"You're not slick, Martin. I hope you're much smoother on the court," she chuckled. "Not really," I admitted with a smile. "This isn't just the alcohol talking right now, is it? Cause if that's the case, I'd rather we not," she admitted. "I know I...
