Chapter 20:Clowns are everywhere

Everyone was waiting for the continuation of the conversation between Kumagawa, Itori and Nico. All for various reasons.

Nico himself was quite tense. After all, he was being put on full display.

Of course, Nico is confident in his cunningness and ability to navigate a conversation. But from what he saw, Kumagawa was even more so.

And there was also another key factor that made him nervous. Kumagawa was unprevisible.

Even if it was an unstable person like Yamori, a mysterious person like Tatara or a deceptive person like Eto, Nico could at the very least guess what they were thinking. However, that was not the situation with Kumagawa.

Nico:Ara? It's not like you to be so cautious.

Najimi:Maybe I'll have to install a profanity filter soon enough? Anyway, shall we continue? There's no need to stay stuck to your seats. After all, this is only a light chat between clowns.

Nico had to held back a shudder as Najimi galnced at him. He forgot there is another dangerous being with them in this room.

Nico did not expect to meet Kumagawa again so soon. Certainly not in Itori's bar of all places, but it was an welcome surprise.

The human boy did not treat Nico with any amosity despite the okama being an accomplice of his torturer. Well, he didn't seen thrilled to see Nico either.

Although Kumagawa keept his smile as always, his gaze betrayed no emotion. Such a neutral stance this boy has...Even though he's human, Nico feels that he's somehow even more inhuman than any ghouls he has meet before.

Kureo:Heh, that's quite the statement...

Koutaro:But I do not believe it's wrong.

Certainly, ghouls and humans had a lot of biological differences. That was largely thought by everyone to be what differenciates them, but doubts were planted as of late.

Kumagawa walked, breathed and had his heart beating like any human, no other organs inside him or a hunger for human flesh. Yet, he may be the furthest thing from a human being.

Kumagawa:[Sorry to dissapoint, but I'm as straight as they come.]

Itori:Hey, don't make a fuss in the shop.

Nico gave her a nod, sitting down. Kumagawa looked a bit at tge reflection in his drink and took another sip before adressing Nico again.

Kumagawa:[That's right. I wanted to ask you something, but we didn't get to talk much back then. You're not a member of the Aogiri Tree, are you, Nico-chan? Than, how come you were able to come and go as you please?]
