The tension in the group had eased after the emotional collision in New York, but it was far from gone. The truth was out now, spoken into existence, but that didn't mean they all knew how to handle it. They had agreed to take things slowly, one step at a time, and for a while, that seemed to be working.
Karina felt lighter, as if a burden had been lifted off her shoulders. She no longer had to pretend everything was fine when it wasn't. But that didn't mean the road ahead was easy.
The tour continued, city after city, with only short breaks between concerts. They were still performing at their best, maintaining their professionalism in the public eye, but the quiet moments backstage were now filled with unspoken tension. The group dynamic had shifted, and while they had reached a fragile truce, it was clear to Karina that they were all still figuring out what that meant.
The next stop on their tour was London, and by the time they arrived, exhaustion was beginning to catch up with all of them. But London had always been one of their favorite cities, and the excitement of performing at the iconic O2 Arena brought a renewed sense of energy to the group.
The night before the concert, they gathered in their hotel suite for a rare moment of relaxation. It was late, the city lights twinkling through the large windows as they lounged around the room. The conversation was light, mostly about the tour and upcoming shows, but the underlying tension was still there—unresolved and quietly bubbling beneath the surface.
Karina sat on one of the couches, her legs curled beneath her as she sipped on a cup of tea. Across from her, Winter and Ningning were sitting together, their shoulders brushing as they chatted quietly. Giselle was sitting by the window, scrolling through her phone but occasionally glancing up to join the conversation.
There was a lull in the chatter, and Karina felt the silence settle over them. It wasn't uncomfortable, but it wasn't exactly easy either. She glanced at Winter, who was watching her with an unreadable expression, and her stomach tightened. The closeness they had shared since that night in Tokyo still lingered, but now it was complicated by the realization that her feelings for the others had deepened as well.
"So," Giselle said, breaking the silence as she put her phone down. "How are we all... doing? Like, really doing?"
Karina stiffened slightly at the question, but she appreciated Giselle's straightforwardness. They couldn't keep pretending like nothing had changed, not after everything they had said in New York.
Winter was the first to speak, her voice quiet but steady. "I'm okay, I think. It's been a lot to process, but... I'm glad we talked about it."
Ningning nodded in agreement, though there was a hint of hesitation in her expression. "Yeah. It's been weird, but I think we're doing better. At least, I feel like I'm not holding everything in anymore."
Giselle shifted in her seat, her gaze thoughtful. "I've been thinking a lot about it too. About us. I think we're handling it the best we can, but I also know this is going to take time. We're not going to figure everything out right away."
Karina set her cup down, drawing in a slow breath before speaking. "I agree. I think the most important thing is that we're honest with each other. It's okay if we don't know what this is yet, but we can't let it fester."
There was a collective murmur of agreement, and for a moment, it felt like they were all on the same page. But then, Giselle leaned forward slightly, her expression serious.
"I do think we need to be clearer about one thing, though," she said, her tone careful but firm. "Where do we all stand? I mean... emotionally."
The question hung in the air, and Karina's heart began to race. She knew Giselle was right—they had acknowledged that their feelings had changed, but they hadn't really talked about what that meant for each of them individually.
Ningning was the first to speak. "I'm still figuring it out," she admitted, her voice softer than usual. "I care about all of you, and I've been feeling things I didn't expect. I don't know what that means yet, but... I know I want to figure it out with you."
Karina felt a rush of affection for Ningning's honesty. It was exactly how she felt too—confused, but willing to explore whatever this was.
Winter shifted beside Ningning, her hand brushing against hers as she spoke. "I feel the same way. I care about you—about all of you—so much. And I don't want to lose that. I don't know what this will look like in the future, but I want to keep being honest with each other."
Karina nodded slowly, feeling the weight of their words settle over her. She glanced at Giselle, who was watching her intently, waiting for her to speak.
"I... don't have all the answers either," Karina said finally, her voice quiet but steady. "But I do know that I care about each of you, deeply. More than I ever thought I would. And I think we can figure this out, but it's going to take time."
Giselle let out a soft breath, her expression softening. "I agree. I just didn't want us to keep skirting around it, you know? We need to be clear about where we stand so we don't hurt each other."
Ningning smiled, the tension in the room lifting slightly. "We're doing okay, though, right? I mean, this isn't as scary as it was a few weeks ago."
Winter chuckled softly. "Yeah, it's less scary now."
Karina smiled too, a sense of relief washing over her. They still had a long way to go, but for the first time, it felt like they were moving in the right direction.

The next morning, the group woke up early for rehearsals at the O2 Arena. The day passed in a blur of soundchecks, costume fittings, and run-throughs, the excitement for the concert building as the hours ticked by. By the time they were backstage, just minutes away from stepping on stage, Karina could feel the familiar buzz of adrenaline in her veins.
They huddled together in their usual pre-show ritual, arms wrapped around each other as they exchanged quick words of encouragement. The world outside of their group seemed to fade away in those moments before a performance. It was just the four of them, united in their shared love for what they did.
"Let's give them a show they'll never forget," Winter said with a grin, her eyes shining with excitement.
"Let's kill it," Ningning added, her usual playfulness returning in full force.
Giselle squeezed Karina's shoulder, and Karina looked up to meet her gaze. There was something unspoken in the way Giselle looked at her—something soft and full of affection. Karina smiled back, feeling a rush of warmth.
As they took the stage, the roar of the crowd hit them like a wave, and all the tension, all the uncertainty, melted away. For the next two hours, there was nothing but the music, the fans, and the sheer joy of performing together.
The concert was a blur of lights, sound, and energy, and by the time they finished their encore, Karina was buzzing with adrenaline. They bowed to the crowd, their hearts pounding as the cheers filled the arena. It was moments like these that reminded her why she loved what they did—why she loved being a part of Aespa.
As they walked off stage, drenched in sweat and riding the high of the performance, Karina felt a sense of contentment settle over her. Things were still complicated, but they were doing okay. They were figuring it out, together.
Backstage, Winter turned to her with a tired but happy smile. "We did it."
Karina smiled back, her heart swelling with affection for her group. "Yeah, we did."
Ningning threw her arms around both of them, laughing. "We're unstoppable!"
Giselle joined in, her laughter ringing out as they all collapsed into a messy group hug, their tiredness forgotten in the warmth of the moment.
As they stood there, wrapped up in each other's arms, Karina realized something important. No matter what happened—no matter how complicated things got—they would always have this. They would always have each other.
And for now, that was more than enough.
