Taro approached Arata in the dorm's common room.
"Hey, Arata. I need to talk to you."
Arata looked up from his book.
"What's up?"
Taro hesitated.
"I don't want to see Sira today. His dad gave him detention."
Arata's eyes widened.
"How did that happen?"
Taro shared the story, Arata's expression changing from surprise to pride.
"You stood up to Sira. That takes courage."
Just then, a gentle voice interrupted.
"Hi, mind if I join you?"
They turned to see a bright-smiling girl.
"Yume Nakahara," she introduced herself.
Taro and Arata exchanged curious glances.
"Please, sit down," Arata offered.
Yume's warmth radiated.
"I couldn't help but overhear. You guys are friends with Sira?"
Taro shook his head.
"More like, we're on the receiving end of his bullying."
Yume's expression softened.
"I'm so sorry. No one deserves that."
Arata smiled.
"You're really kind, Yume."
Yume blushed.
"I just believe everyone deserves kindness."
As they chatted, Taro and Arata discovered Yume's compassion and empathy.
"She's amazing," Taro whispered to Arata.
Arata nodded.
"Nicest person we've met."
Yume overheard.
"Thanks, guys! You're pretty great yourselves."
The three laughed, forming an instant bond.

Over lunch, Yume shared stories of her volunteer work.
Taro listened intently.
"You're inspiring, Yume."
Arata nodded.
"We could use more kindness like yours."
Yume beamed.
"You guys are making me feel like I'm doing something right."
As they finished lunch, Taro turned to Arata.
"Thanks for standing up to Sira."
Arata smiled.
"Thanks for being you."
Yume's eyes sparkled.
"I'm so glad I met you both."
