When Lydia Black entered Hogwarts, many of the professors had this fearful look in their eyes. A look that Lydia would go on to receive for the rest of her life but would never fully understand. However, on the first day of her first year at Hogwarts, she was blessed with meeting three other students of her age who refused to judge her. Seeing Lydia as only for her and not caring for the past that was hooked to her last name, she became friends with the three goofy people. Those three goofs were Ron Weasley, Harry Potter, the boy who lived himself, and Hermione Granger, a girl who ended up becoming so dear to Lydia.
She originally met the two boys on the train to Hogwarts when they caught her stealing their candy, as it was something she was never allowed at home. But the three all had an understanding of each other, and once they forgave the girl, they fell in love with her ridiculous jokes and character which led to the three of them becoming close friends.
Hermione Granger however was not so convinced at first. In fact the bushy haired girl seemed almost disgusted by Lydia's antics. But eventually, she grew on the bushy haired girl, and Hermione couldn't deny it. They became best friends very quickly in their first year, and were much closer with each other than the boys in their small group.
Fear did instill in Lydia herself on the first day of her first year when the sorting hat was placed on her head. The hat had a very hard time deciding between if Lydia should be sorted into Slytherin or Gryffindor. Eventually, it decided that her courage and bravery outweighed the qualities of a Slytherin and she was sorted into Gryffindor. Much to her pleasure.
Now that Lydia Black was entering her third year at Hogwarts, she had created a name for herself. One that strayed away from the rumors that surrounded her. Now, she loved who she had become at school and the life she built there. But life at home with her grandmother was never the same. It wasn't unusual for her body to be marked with bruises from Walburga's beatings. She knew deep down, no matter how hard she tried to seem normal at school, Lydia Black would never be blessed with a normal life.
