"Did you know people were saying we're hooking up?' Kỳ was sat in the passenger seat of Kezia's car, scrolling aimlessly on his phone.

"Yeah I figured."

Kezia fiddled with the air conditioner and cleared his throat. "How do you feel about that?" His grip on the steering wheel tightened.

"I'm okay." Kỳ rubbed the back of his neck. "Right now, I'm a bit tense."

"Some stress relief would be nice huh?" Kỳ caught Kezia's cheeky grin in the rear view mirror.

"Do you ever think of anything other than me on top of you?" He sighed.

"Sure." Kezia turned to him. "I think about what type of person I am and if I'm good enough for you. I also think about whether or not I'll be a memorable person or was my existence just a blip in the universe."

"Okay. I didn't mean for things to get that philosophical," Kỳ ruffled his hair. "I get it, you're a smart boy." Kezia's cheeks turned pink at that and Kỳ rolled his eyes.

"So... What do you want to do? We've got a couple hours before the party."

"I don't know. Did you have anything in mind?" Kỳ's hand rested on Kezia's thigh.

"I did..." He smirked.

Kỳ sighed, "Kezia. We are not hooking up just before your birthday party. Think of something else for now."

He blushed. "I was going to say we could have a date?"

Kỳ had been to Kezia's house enough times to know where everything was, so when he entered it once again, he went straight to the boy's room.

"Where do you want to go?" Kỳ took off his jacket, running a hand through his hair.

"We can watch something here. I've got Netflix and there are snacks in the kitchen." Kezia got up from his bed. "I'll get the food and you can pick the movie."

"Sure." Kỳ took the remote from the bedside table and threw himself on the bed.

As much as Kỳ didn't sleep over often, the sheets smelt familiar. Whether it was the scent of Kezia's house or him, his nose knew it all too well.

Kỳ scrolled through the endless film catalogue until Kezia came back.

"So what are we watching?" Kezia came back to sit next to him with a large bowl of popcorn and a tall bottle of soda.

"I don't know actually, I just picked something random." Kỳ took a handful of popcorn.

"Sure." He smirked.

As the movie played, the atmosphere within Kezia's room began to change. His hand kept grazing past Kỳ's lower stomach every time he reached for the soda. Every so often Kỳ would turn to him and he was already facing him.

"Are you okay?" The credits were playing and just in time, it was an hour and a half before people would start to arrive for Kezia's party.

"Yeah. I'm just nervous I guess." He finished the last bit of soda before getting up.

"What are you nervous about?" Kỳ followed after him.

"I'm turning eighteen this year, which means I'm basically an adult after this. I don't know if I'm ready to move out of my mom's house and live alone just yet." He ran a hand through his hair and sighed. The sudden realisation seemed to be stressing him out more than it needed to.

"That's okay. I'm eighteen and not much has changed since then." Kỳ put a hand on his shoulder in an attempt to comfort him. "Just enjoy your birthday party and be happy you're still alive."
