THREE

CLAIRE

Once outside, Josh and I sit on the bench. We were alone, everyone else was inside partying. I could feel my head spinning a little. My thoughts were incoherent and fuzzy. I feel like I'm floating. It feels good. To be able to relax and not think about anything.

"Can I ask you a question?" I say, breaking the silence.

"What?", He says, swallowing a sip of his drink.

"Why did you want me to come here tonight?"

"Because you need to leave your house more. You need to have a little more fun. To enjoy yourself. That's what being a teenager is all about."

"Oh, so it's not because you wanted to see me?" I don't know where this sudden confidence comes from. But I kind of like it.

"Maybe. I like spending time with you. At least, I have someone to have an actual conversation with. It's not like any of these guys can speak proper sentences. Blame the booze and weed for that."

"I guess. But seriously... How did you know I would show up tonight? I'm curious."

"Because you can't say no to me." He winks.

"Is that so?"

"Yeah." He nods and takes another sip.

"I can say no to you."

"Nah, you can't."

"How can you be so sure?"

"Because I know you, Claire. You can't resist me.", He says turning to me and getting closer.

I feel my face burning up. I'm blushing. Damn it.  The alcohol helps me to loosen up a little bit. I'm less uncomfortable. And a little too happy. I lift my hand and shuffle his hair, making him groan in annoyance. He does the same thing to me. I try pushing him away but fall behind. Thank goodness, Josh gets a grip on my arm and stops me from falling off the bench. I start laughing uncontrollably.

"Are you okay?" he smirks.

"Never been better." I smile.

"You're drunk."

"So are you."

"Not as much as you. You're wasted."

"No, I'm not." I sloppily chug my drink.

"I think you've had enough of that." He says, taking the cup from my hand.

"Hey! Give it back!" I complain, like a child.

"No," he says, standing up and about to walk towards the garbage bin close to us but, I pull his arm, bringing it back.

"If you don't give it back to me I will- "

"You will what Claire?" he cuts me off, challenging me.

"I will take it from you."

"For that, you'll have to get it out of my hand."

"Don't underestimate me, Parker."

"Prove it, Robinson."

Without hesitating once more second, I stand up in front of him. I lifted my hand and went to grab my drink but he lifted his arm higher in the air so I couldn't reach it. I get on my tippy toes, but the alcohol doesn't help me keep my balance, so I fall on Josh's chest. Making me fall on top of him. Josh chuckles.
