The ride back to the Baron's estate was quieter than expected. The night had swallowed the fortress whole, leaving only the burning wreckage of betrayal and blood behind. The Baron's mission had succeeded—Alastair had been eliminated, but at a price. The whispers he had uncovered in Alastair's final moments gnawed at him, unsettled him. His uncle had grown stronger, not weaker, gathering alliances with old enemies the Baron had believed to be long defeated.

The fortress was a warning: his time to reclaim his throne was running out. And if he failed, the dynasty he sought to rule would crumble, leaving only ashes in its place.

But that wasn't the only weight on his mind. Leah.

There was something about her—a fire, a mystery—that refused to leave him, even in the depths of his rage. She had come into his life unexpectedly, like a storm he couldn't control. He had left her in his estate, under watch, but what she was truly after remained unclear. There were layers to her, layers he had yet to uncover.

When he arrived at the estate, the Baron dismounted, handing the reins of his horse to a waiting servant. The moonlight cast long shadows across the cobblestones, and he caught sight of Marcus standing near the entrance, his expression unreadable. There was something different about Marcus, something he couldn't quite place.

"Report," the Baron commanded as he approached.

Marcus straightened, his voice low. "The woman—Leah—she's been... exploring the estate."

The Baron raised an eyebrow. "Exploring?"

"She entered your private study last night," Marcus continued, his eyes flickering with unease. "I found her there, going through your things."

A cold wave of anger rushed through the Baron's veins. Leah's game was beginning to reveal itself, and it was more dangerous than he had anticipated. He should have known better than to trust her beauty and vulnerability. She had come into his life for a reason, and now he intended to find out what that reason was.

But Marcus's face held another story, one the Baron recognized instantly. "And what did you do about it?"

Marcus hesitated, his eyes dropping to the ground. "I... distracted her," he said, his tone suggesting more than just a simple confrontation.

The Baron's fists clenched at his sides, but he forced himself to remain calm. Leah had seduced Marcus to get what she wanted, and Marcus had fallen for it. But this game wasn't over—not yet.

"Bring her to me," the Baron ordered, his voice cold. "It's time we had a talk."
