In Alex's room, sunlight streamed through the windows, illuminating the space with a warm glow. The walls decorated with posters of bands he liked, The Smiths, The Cure, or Nirvana. Lush green plants breathed life into the bright atmosphere, creating a sense of tranquility. Despite being a bit messy, the room feels spacious and accommodating. In his best sleeping Alex rolls over on his back his blanket wrapped snugly around him as he let out a contented sigh, a familiar ringtone blares the morning silence.
Alex's eyes snap open, his heart racing with the sudden jolt of sound. He quickly reaches for his phone, fumbling to silence the persistent noise, his mind slowly transitioning from the realm of dreams to the reality of a new day ahead.
« Yeah ? » he said, voice deep and drowsy.
« Dude, we're totally screwed ! » he screamed panicked.
« Henry, what are you talking about ? » he uttered as he slowly turned on his side stretching his legs.
« Did you forget what day is it ? » he asked while searching for something still panicking.
Alex confused took a peak at his phone to see the date.
« It's September 4th yeah, why is that so important ? » still confused.
« Well it's September 4h and it's 7:30 man, please work your brain out » he continued, still searching deeply while making loud noises that started to bother Alex on the other line.
« Holy shit we're screwed, it's the first day of school ! » he screamed jumping out of his bed as he finally understood what his best friend meant.
« Yeah and class starts at 8am so we might have to hurry also i-» he said but was quickly cut off by his phone dropping off his shoulder.« Shit-»
« Henry we're late, what are you even searching for ?» he asked, searching for his clothes while stumbling on a few things in his messy room.
« I know, i'm searching for my car keys ! You know that the bus passed by your house 10 minutes ago right ? » he said still searching in other places rapidly.
« What ?! Bro the walk to school takes about 40 minutes on foot i cannot-» he complained until he was interrupted by his friend.
« Yeah and that's why i definitely need my keys to drive us to school, so hurry up put some clothes on and meet me in the driveway in front of your house in 10 minutes » he uttered still searching desperately until his hand grabbed something in between the couch. « Ah ! Found it ! »
« Okay cool, see ya bye »
He didn't let his best friend say goodbye and hung up putting his phone in the back pocket of his jeans. He grabbed a t-shirt that seemed clean and quickly put it on, took his backpack from his desk, and stuffed notebooks and pens in it, doubting that they would be useful.
He ran down the stairs, skipping a step or two, which nearly caused him to land flat on his face and stopped right in front of an empty room.
« Mom must be doing a night shift again, she doesn't seem to have come home yet » he whispered while scanning the room with his eyes.
As Alex dashed to the front door, snatched his keys, he quickly glanced at the mirror next to the door adjusting his blond hair before rushing out to the driveway in front of his house, dialing Henry's number. He closed the door, walked rapidly towards the road and crossed it without even looking, too focused on the call waiting for him to pick up.
