... adrenaline pumping almost like it never has before.

My breathing is quick and hitched, my body should be hot but it feels cold.

God, I'm already sweating.

I wipe the sweat off my forehead, and go right back to resting my hands on my knees, and before I know it, Alejandro's back.

He runs behind me and stops, attempting to catch his breath.

I immediately walk over to him.

"Are you okay?"

"I'm.. I'm fine.." He replies in a breathy haze.

"Let's go!" Dixie screams.

"This is only the first race! You still have so much more to go!"

I don't know how we're gonna make it through this.

HE'S NOT SUPPOSED TO BE HERE

HEATHER KASUGA

"Good job contestants! But, don't flatter yourselves. We still have so many relay races to go!" Dixie smiles cheekily.

We're all in a haze, our bodies still trying to process what they just did.

"Next relay race!" Dixie yells as she pulls out a small remote control from her back pocket.

She presses it, but... nothing happens.

"Uhm, what exactly was that supposed to do?" I ask, a slight tremble in my voice that I didn't expect to come out.

"Oh, you'll see! Get to running!" Is she serious?

Okay, knowing Dixie, something is going to come out of the ground while we're running.

The main question is: what?

"On your marks, get set, go!" She screams, and Harold and Duncan are off once again.

It feels like my heart is starting to beat faster and faster by the moment. I just know something's gonna come out of the ground but...

"AAAAAAAH!" I hear someone scream.

I focus back on the race, and a big spiky piece of metal shaped like an upside cone is impaled right in Harold's foot.

I almost throw up at the sight.

His foot is bloody, and there's a big gashy hole in the bottom of it.

He lifts his foot up, staring in horror at the bottom.

"Harold keep going!" Someone on our team yells.

"Or don't, your team's doing the losing penalty, not Duncan's." Dixie says, rolling her eyes.

He tries to plant his food down to run, but just ends up screaming in pain.
