Chapter One
Come Find Me8 years later...
The sunset in PinesTown Washington never looked more beautiful, and that was the beauty of after-rainy days. The smell of wet grass and the burning bleachers in the baseball court both screamed the sounds of summer, even after it just ended for the students at West Pines High. The students were off doing their after school activities during this time. The drama club getting ready for its first play, the Football team practicing for their first home game, and the cheerleaders creating a new routine.
And then there was Tori, doing what she loved the most. Baseball. It was an unappreciated sport in her school. The school papers never talked about it much, but her two friends, Sofia and Barbara, were very supportive of it. As far as she can remember, she has been practicing since she was at the age of 7. It had been her main passion ten years later.
"Tori Mayflower, you're up!" Coach Cunninghare announced. It was 12 minutes to 5:30 pm, and Tori was called up to the home plate. She was the last batter to go up before practice was over. Her teammates patted her shoulders and wished her good luck before she headed to the field. When she steadied her feet and positioned herself, she stared down at the pitcher of this game, Jackson. Jackson was a sophomore, about two years behind Tori. But despite that he still thinks he's more superior than her when it comes to baseball (even though she knew he only got into it because his soccer hobby caused him a broken foot once, which was stupid.)
"You're going down, chick!" He squealed, positioning his arm to throw the ball.
Tori began to ready herself for the throw, when she heard cries and cheers from the bleachers. Both her friends, Barbara and Sofia, were there on time to cheer her on. The two girls always loved to come to Tori's practices in the afternoon and treat it like the actual game. They were like her number one fans.
Tori smiled at them both, before turning her head to the pitcher, who was already throwing the ball. Unfortunately the catcher behind her already got to the ball before she could. She wasn't upset by this, but her friend Sofia uproared into a cursing mess.
"C'mon Tori what are you doing!?" she yelled, "KICK, HIS, ASS!!" Sofia threw punches into the air, trying her best to support Tori in the most obnoxious way possible. Barbara gripped onto Sofia's sweater.
"Sofi, calm down!" She said as she tugged her friend down to the bleachers, "You'll distract her."
Barbara and Sofia were two different pairs in a fruit basket. Barbara was a more of a dorky kind of girl, and pretty nerdy. She always covered up in hot and cold weather with a cardigan and turtlenecks. Tori was surprised that she never overheated in such layers of wool fabrics. Sofia on the other hand, was more free spirited. She was never insecure about anything, and was considered the "wild child" of the friend group. Despite this, she always covered half of her face with a batch of her hair, and just recently started adding bandages to it because she claims it "looks bad-ass."
Tori never found them a distraction to her games. She loved them both to death, and was really happy that they were her friends.
"C'mon Tori! Get back in the game!" Jackson yelled, "Or are you just scared?" Tori braced her feet and tightened her grip on her trusty baseball bat. She wasn't scared of anything that stood before her, especially if they are immature boys.
She glared down at the pitcher and waited for the perfect time to swing her bat. Her friends watch with anticipation. As Jackson threw the ball in her direction, she swung her bat with every force in her body. The ball went flying like the speed of a bullet into the forest, catching Jackson off guard. She used this chance to drop her bat and run to first base, then second base, then third...
