Chapter 4

You tossed and turned, breath quick and shallow. You quickly shot up, panting. You'd been having a nightmare. Your head was throbbing with pain. You rubbed it, finding bandages had been wrapped around your head to protect the wound. You rubbed your eyes and looked around, realizing you had no clue where you were. You were in a relatively pink room which gave you hope that the green hedgehog hadn't actually managed to take you. He didn't seem like the type to have pink or bows in his room. You hesitantly slid out of bed and onto the floor. You were slightly relieved to see you were still wearing the same outfit from the nightclub. That meant no one had don'e anything to you while you were unconscious besides bandage your head and take your shoes off. You quietly crept along the floor, socks helping to cover the sound of your walking. You reached for the doorknob but quickly heard footsteps. You jumped back as the door opened. You put yourself into a defensive position, prepared for whoever walked through the door to attack you. However the pink hedgehog who entered simply smiled up at you. "Oh good!! You're awake!!" You let down your defense slightly. If she wanted to harm you she sure wasn't making herself intimidating. Something about her pink quills and red and white dress seemed familiar, but you just couldn't put your finger on it. "How are you feeling?" Her question quickly brought you out of your thoughts. "I'm fine." You calmly responded. "Shadow said Scourge was the one who hurt you. Nasty hedgehog. It's a good thing the only real damage he did was hurting the back of your head. Anyways," She sat on the edge of the bed, motioning for you to join her. "I'm Amy, Amy Rose. What's your name?" You felt a cold rush of panic set in as she said that. Amy Rose as in the Amy Rose that was friends with Sonic. That could mean only one thing, you were back at Sonic's base. The same place you'd broken into to steal a robot. Amy took notice of your slightly worried and frightened look and asked. "Is something wrong?" You quickly put on a mask of calmness and said "Yeah, I'm fine, just a bit disoriented. I mean I got knocked out and wind up somewhere completely new..." You nervously chuckled as you sat beside her. "As to answer your earlier question, my name is (Y/N) the Hedgehog." Amy smiled. "That's such a pretty name! Is your head bothering you at all? If you need anything just let me know." The pink hedgehog was comforting and sweet. She had a personality similar to Cally's. You sighed. "Uhh, do you have anything I can change into?" The pink hedgehog nodded. "I think so, you're free to look through my closet and pick something out." After a bit of searching, you found something to change into. It felt nice to be in an outfit that wasn't that dress. Sure, you'd felt cute in it but given the situation it'd led you into you'd rather wear something else. After changing and fixing your quills you presented yourself to Amy. She grinned. "You look wonderful! I'm sure the others would love to know you're alright and awake. Here let me introduce you!" She quickly took your hand and pulled you along. You felt another wave of nervousness wash over you. What if they had figured out it was you who stole from them? You simply followed Amy along hoping you were safe. Amy led you into a slightly messy room with sparkly magenta walls. Most of the furniture of the room was black with hints of the same magenta coloring and sparkles everywhere. A white bat sat on the bed in the center of the room, admiring some jewelry. "Rouge! This is the girl Shadow rescued, (Y/N)!" Rouge's bat ears perked up and she slid into a sitting position. Her emerald colored eyes gave you a once over and she said. "Well, it's nice to meet you, sugar." She slid off her bed and walked over to you. "Gorgeous necklace by the way. You know you're lucky, Shadow doesn't usually play knight in shining armor for strangers. That's more of Sonic's thing." You nodded. "Uhm thank you.. For the compliment on my necklace..." You felt awkward as Rouge's emerald eyes continued to look down at you. Amy quickly relieved you of this awkward feeling by speaking. "See ya later, Rouge? We've got other people to meet." With that you were promptly led to another room. The second you stepped into the garage-like area you felt 10 times as nervous as before. You saw a golden yellow twin-tailed fox hovering by two broken windows, a blue hedgehog standing just below him. "Sonic! Tails!" Amy cheerfully called out. "This is (Y/N)! The girl Shadow saved." The two turned to face you, Tails landed infront of you. "Hi! I'm Tails and this is-" "Sonic! Sonic the Hedgehog!!" The blue hero interrupted. "Sonic..." Tail finsiehd with slight annoyance. Sonic chuckled. "Sorry buddy." Tail flew back to the windows to continue assessing them with a tool he had while Sonic stayed with you and Amy. "So how ya feeling, (Y/N)?" You took a deep breath. "I'm fine, thank you for asking." I'm not fine! I don't usually feel bad for taking things from people because I normally don't have to end up staying with them or even see them after I finish my mission!! You slightly smiled despite your crowded mind. You cleared your throat and asked. "So what happened to those windows?" Sonic turned around. "Well that's what me, Tails and the Chaotixs were trying to figure out. We had a robot, Metal Sonic, kept in here but he was shut off so he couldn't have been the one to break the windows. What's weird is one window has a cut out shape while the other is smashed." That's because Metal Sonic decided to be stupid and smash through the window!! Your mind screamed. "Not to mention Metal Sonic is missing. Tail and I have a hunch Robotnik had some of his Badniks break in to steal that metal-head back." You felt slightly relieved that the leading idea was that Robotnik was the only one who had broken in. "I mean that does seem plausible. Metal Sonic is robotnik's creation after all." You added, to which Sonic nodded in agreement. Amy interrupted. "I hate to end the chat but we've got other friends to meet." Sonic chuckled. "Well, see you around (Y/N)!" Amy quickly grabbed your arm and led you off to meet more people. You were introduced to a small rabbit named Cream, who, Amy told you, was only visiting for a few days before she'd be heading back to her mother, Vanilla. The little rabbit girl had a small Chao, Cheese, who upon you trying to pet, hid behind Cream, seeming to not like you. The little rabbit was confused because according to her Cheese was usually very friendly. You'd shrugged it off. Not everyone was going to like every person they meet. You were introduced to a ninja chameleon named Espio, a detective crocodile named Vector and a small bee named Charmy. Your introduction to them was short due to the fact they were 'On a case.' Turns out the group had been called in to help investigate the break-in. Great. Yet another thing to keep the guilt of stealing fresh in your mind. It felt strange to feel guilty about this one mission when you'd been doing things like this for years. "Hey, earth to (Y/N)!" A white hand with black fingerless gloves and orange bracers wrapped around them, waved in front of your face. You jumped slightly, startled by the action. "Sorry!" the same person replied. You looked up to see a grey and white lemur girl. "Hi! I'm Tangle and the quiet wolf over there is Whisper. "...hello..." The wolf softly replied, before returning to working on her Wispon. Amy had to go off and help with something, she hadn't gone into much detail, so you'd been left with Tangle the Lemur and Whisper the Wolf. "So tell me about yourself!" Tangle enthusiastically asked. You shifted in your position sitting in the grass around the base. It was a sunny day and Whisper and Tangle were outside. You were deciding what to tell her. "Uh... well I'm (Y/N). I'm a hedgehog if you couldn't tell." You motioned to your quills, ears perking up slightly. Tangle nodded. "Come on, share more!!" She grinned, getting excited. "Uh... well..." However Whisper quietly interrupted. "...Tangle, (Y/N) might not want to talk..." The lemure girl frowned. "True..." She turned to face you. "I'm sorry for being too nosy and pestering." You were slightly thankful for the escape Whisper had given you from talking about yourself however you felt a bit bad for making Tangle feel like a nuisance. "No, it's fine Tangle. I just don't like talking about MYSELF... We can talk about other things if you'd like." The lemur instantly perked up. "Do you actually think Eggman broke Metal Sonic out of Tail's lab or do you think that it was someone else? Maybe it was Dr.Starline!! Or maybe someone stole him for their own mission!!" Tangle got more and more excited with every outlandish idea she came up with. You let out a heavy exhale. You understood that this break-in was important but you were trying to forget the situation, hoping to ease your feeling of guilt.
