Chapter 7

"Please just tell us!!" Cally whined, tail drooping down with a pout. You wouldn't let anyone break you down into admitting the truth, not again. "Drop it Cally." Cally fell silent and Lavender took her role of poking at you, trying to get to know the truth. "Just tell us!! We'll stop bothering you!!!" Lavender crossed her arms and frowned. You glared at the pair and replied. "I hope you know if EITHER of you two had a secret or something you didn't want anyone to know I WOULDN'T be pestering you to tell me!" You grumbled as Cally flopped down next to you on your bed. She crawled on top of your back as you laid on your bed and she began to tug at your quills. "Just tell ussssss!!!! PLEASE!!!!! I will DIE if you don't tell us!!!!" She whined. You growled as you felt the painful sensation. You shoved Cally off your back before standing up. You gave Lavender and Cally VERY aggravated glares. "I'm going out for a walk! You two better not follow me!" You huffed. You exited the room and walked down the hall, ears pinning back as you heard the pair follow after you. You decided to ignore them, pretending as if you couldn't hear or see them. "I feel bad following her." You heard Cally whisper. Lavender swiftly whispered back. "Well I don't. We need to figure out what's going on with her!" You exited from the base the two just a bit behind you. You startled to relax a bit as you walked. I'm back with Lavender and Cally, back to my normal life. Well as normal as being a thief can be. I'd escaped your forced role of becoming a hero, right? Yeah. I'm free now... Almost as if the world was mocking you the second those thought scrossed your familiar black and red blur whizzed by you. You let out a squeak of surprise. The hedgehog skidded to a halt on his air-skates before walking towards you, a pissed look on his face. "Where have you been?!" He demanded. Your ears pinned back as you felt your temper flare. "I'm back living my normal life! I'm not a hero! Sonic and all of you guys will do JUST FINE without me!!" You heard Lavender and Cally approaching behind you. You glanced back at them, concerned looks on their face. Shadow's annoyed expression seemed to somehow deepen and he slightly bared his fangs in frustration. "You can't just give up the fate the world has given you! You can wish you were someone else all you want but it won't change that you're the chosen one. If anyone could just give up being a hero, do you think very many people would be heroes in this world? No..." You closed your eyes with a sigh. You opened them as you felt Lavender's hand on your shoulder. "(Y/N) we want an explanation. Now." The stern tone and look in her eyes told you there was no escaping having to tell them. Shadow gave you a questioning look and you simply glared back at the black and red hedgehog. You sighed and began to explain. Lavender's arms were firmly crossed as she gave you a clearly upset look. "So you're telling me you most likely have to save the world and didn't even bother telling us?!" Your ears drooped as you felt the frustration radiating from Cally and Lavender. "I- I just didn't want you involved... I didn't want you to get hurt..." Lavender huffed and crossed her arms. "So you don't think we're good enough to fight with you and the heroes?" Why is she being so accusatory? I just want to protect them both... "No I just-" Lavender cut you off. "I get it, you just want to be the hero in this. Come on Cally, let's go." Cally looked between you and Lavender before scampering after Lavender. Your ears folded back as you watched them leave you. Shadow huffed. "Let's get going." You bit the inside of your cheek as you followed after Shadow. What was going on with Lavender and Cally? Can't they understand I just want to protect them? Shadow glanced over at you. Sensing your troubled emotions he quietly said. "Even if they're mad at you, it's better to keep the one's you love safe and out of harm's way..." You knew he was right. It's better Lavender and Cally are mad and staying away from me. Then if something goes sour I don't have to fear for their safety. You glanced back, secretly hoping Lavender and Cally would be following you and the whole interaction before had just been a vivid hallucination. It wasn't. Cally and Lavender were nowhere to be seen which both filled you with relief and hurt. Shadow glanced back at you, seeing your distracted nature, grabbed your wrist and began to lead you along. "Hey! I can walk on my own!" You protested. The black and red hedgehog rolled his eyes. "Staring off into space and freezing in the middle of the sidewalk is DEFINITELY helping your case right now. Look, I just want to get back to base quickly and you walk too slow." You rolled your eyes and pulled your wrist away from him, crossing your arms, ears slightly pinned back in annoyance and sass. Little did the two of you know there was a shadowy creature following from behind.
