In Indore, everyone at Verma Sadan was overjoyed, and why wouldn't they be? Today was the wedding day of their beloved son, Ishaan Verma.Women were laughing and chatting in the hall, while Arvi, dressed in a heavy lehenga and veil, sat quietly among them. Aarti ji then arrived and, looking at Arvi, told everyone, "Let's take a break; my daughter must be tired."
One woman remarked, "Sister, why call her your daughter? She's the daughter-in-law of this house; give her the respect she deserves, or she'll start ruling over you in no time." Aarti ji countered, "She's not just my daughter-in-law; she's my daughter. Today is her first day in this house. You women should uplift her spirits, not discourage her. Remember when you left your own home to join your husband's? If your mother-in-law hadn't shown you love and respect, how would you have felt?" The woman's eyes dropped in shame.
Aarti ji continued, "Arvi, my dear, don't mind what happened earlier. You're my daughter, and I'll treat you with the same love and care." Arvi's eyes welled up with tears, which she discreetly wiped away behind her veil. Aarti ji then escorted Arvi upstairs to Ishaan's room.
As they entered, Aarti ji helped Arvi sit on the bed and said, "Don't take what happened downstairs to heart. I'll never consider you less than my own daughter." She then added, "Rest now; I'll send food through Ishaan. You both eat together; it's our family tradition." Arvi anxiously asked, "Can't I eat with everyone maa?" Aarti ji explained, "Today, you and Ishaan will dine alone, allowing you to bond and build trust. That's essential for any relationship, especially since yours is an arranged marriage and you haven't had much chance to interact."
After Aarti ji left, Arvi pondered her words and thought about Ishaan. "I wonder what he's like? We barely spoke before marriage... At least my mother-in-law is kind and understanding." Just then, someone knocked on the door. It was Ishaan, carrying a large plate of food. Arvi felt nervous.
Ishaan placed the plate on the table and said, "Please eat, Arvi ji." Noticing there was only one plate, Arvi asked, "Just one plate?" Ishaan replied, "Maa said it's tradition." Arvi hesitated, feeling uneasy, and suggested Ishaan eat first. However, he reassured her, "You eat first; I'll have mine later." Arvi reluctantly agreed.
As Ishaan changed, Arvi quickly washed her hands and began eating, hungry since morning. Despite her apprehensions about Ishaan, she felt at ease with his gentle nature. When Ishaan returned, he smiled, seeing Arvi eat, but kept his distance, knowing she needed space.
Later, as Arvi finished and headed to wash her hands, she bumped into Ishaan at the bathroom door and felt flustered. They exchanged awkward glances, both shy and unsure.
Arvi went to the bathroom to wash her hands, thinking, "Ishaan must have thought I'm clumsy; I sometimes do strange things." She shook her head and came out.
Meanwhile, Ishaan ate, thinking, "Arvi caught me staring; I hope she doesn't think I'm rude." After finishing, he washed his hands and returned to find Arvi veiled, sitting on the bed. He sat beside her, keeping distance, and extended his hand.
Arvi trembled as Ishaan lifted her veil, gazing lovingly. She felt uneasy and averted her eyes. Ishaan snapped out of his trance, looked away, and then gently took her hand, about to speak.
Arvi stuttered, "Ishaan ji, I'm not ready to...move forward in this relationship. Can you give me time?" Ishaan replied, "It's okay, Arvi ji. Take your time. I also thought we should know each other better before proceeding." He handed her a pillow and blanket, saying, "Sleep comfortably; I'll sleep on the sofa."
Despite the sofa's small size, Ishaan adjusted himself and soon fell asleep, exhausted. Arvi sat on the bed, thinking, "I expected my husband to be like my father, but Ishaan is different. I should change and sleep too." She went to the bathroom to change and returned to bed.
