chapter two;
le ministère de la magie

The boat journey was rather quick, and from the moment they reached France soil everything turned out to be easier—though not fast at all.

The Floo that was supposed to take them to Paris, where the French Ministry of Magic was, could only fit at most two people at the time, and so, James and Sirius had to organize everyone into pairs, make sure they knew the right pronunciation of Ministère de la Magie and if they didn't Sirius would have to go with someone individually, being that he actually spoke french, and come back to get more people.

They had at most around thirty-five people under their care, ten families they'd managed to save and had to spend the next few days rehabilitating. Since Sirius spoke French he was the designated person to lead them through the French government if needed, and since James had a knack for dealing with people he made sure there weren't any issues, screaming children running amock, and such.

It was late at night when they managed to get everyone to the Ministère de la Magie and to a wing of the building where arrangements had been made for all of them to stay while the government judged financial stability and muggle awareness to deduce the best place for everyone.

As soon as they were done for the day, James and Sirius slumped into the couch of the room they were sharing, exhausted out of their minds. The Ministère de la Magie was much different from the Ministry of Magic in the UK, for starters it wasn't hidden it was more like Hogwarts, only on the outskirts of Paris, an enormous palace, with light everywhere and prim-looking people wandering about.

If James let go of his magic and felt for his surroundings, he could sense the natural magic, the feeling of airiness and freshness of the Ministry. Amaya would've loved it. He could bet she could spend days exploring the palace being used as the Ministry and find every type of different magic she could. He understood better now, how magic truly was fascinating, how different places were different and felt different too.

"Tomorrow we're meeting Madame Laura," Sirius said with a sigh, explaining his talk with the Minister of Foreign affairs he'd just had. "She's the one with the money, I guess. She'll be in charge of getting everyone allocated and safe."

"Does that mean we can leave?"

Sirius snorted and shook his head. "That means we have to help. You know, I think after the war I'm done. It's too much work working for a living."

James let out a chuckle. "Paperwork?"

"Fucking paperwork." Sirius groaned. "We'll a shitload on our desks when we come back."
