(THERE IS A FLYING BUG IN MY ROOM 😭)
🍧🎀
(The only reason for this chapter is a friend of mine who is obsessed with ANY boy doing a girls hair 😰)

The next morning came too quickly, a blaring alarm pulling me from a dreamless sleep at precisely 5:45 a.m. The dorm room was still dark, the sky outside barely beginning to lighten. Lili groaned from the other side of the room, rolling over in her bed. I sat up, rubbing my eyes, still groggy from the intensity of the previous day.

"Morning already?" Lili mumbled, her voice thick with exhaustion.

"Yep. And we've got to be at our first class in... less than half an hour," I said, checking the clock on the wall.

Lili yawned, sitting up and giving me a small smile. "Thanks again for yesterday. I know you could've made it without me, but... I really appreciate it."

"Don't worry about it," I said with a shrug. "We're in this together, right?"

"Right," she agreed, her eyes sparkling with gratitude. "Besties."

Her warmth made the early morning feel less harsh, and it was nice to know I had a loyal friend beside me. But that didn't change the fact that we were running out of time. I jumped out of bed, frantically pulling on my uniform—standard military-issued gray pants and a black shirt. The simplicity of the outfit didn't leave much room for personalization, which was fine by me. But my hair was another story.

I glanced at myself in the mirror and winced. My hair was a tangled mess, sticking out in every direction like I'd been caught in a windstorm. "Oh, great," I muttered, grabbing a brush and trying to tame it. But the minutes were ticking by fast, and I could hear the other recruits already moving down the hall.

"We've got to go," I said, giving up on perfection and grabbing my ponytail holder. "Come on!"

Lili nodded, stuffing her feet into her boots. She was still limping a little from her twisted ankle, but her spirit seemed unbreakable. "I'm ready, let's do this!"

We rushed out of the dorm room and into the brisk morning air, the sky still a dull blue-gray as dawn barely crept in. My hair wasn't cooperating, strands flying everywhere as I tried to gather it into a ponytail while jogging to the training field.

Just as I managed to twist the hairband around for the third time, I heard a familiar voice beside me.

"Having some trouble?" Enzo's amused voice called out.

I glanced over, my breath catching for a second. He was walking just a little ahead of us, his dark hair neatly in place and his expression as calm and composed as ever. A soft chuckle escaped his lips, and he slowed his pace to match mine.

"You're going to end up with half your hair in that band if you keep going like that," he teased lightly, a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.

I rolled my eyes but couldn't stop the blush from creeping up my neck. "Not everyone wakes up looking perfect, Enzo."

He shook his head, still smiling. "Here, let me help."

Before I could protest, he took the ponytail holder from my hand, his fingers brushing against mine. I stood still, half embarrassed, half grateful, as he quickly gathered my unruly hair and secured it into a neat ponytail with surprising skill. I caught Lili watching from the corner of my eye, her eyebrow arched, but she said nothing, a mischievous smile playing on her lips.

"There you go," Enzo said, stepping back and giving me a playful look. "You're all set."

"Thanks," I muttered, feeling flustered under his steady gaze.

"No problem," he replied smoothly. "You'd better hurry if you don't want to be late. And good luck today. First day's always the hardest."

With that, he gave me a quick nod and continued walking toward his higher-level class. I stood there for a moment, staring after him, until Lili nudged me with a knowing grin.

"Well, that was... something," she teased. "Enzo, the hair expert."

I groaned, shaking my head as we resumed our hurried pace toward the training field. "Don't start. I was running late."

"Oh, I'm not starting," Lili said with a laugh. "I'm just saying he seems pretty into helping you out."

I didn't respond, my mind still replaying the gentle way his hands had moved through my hair. I tried to shake it off. This wasn't the time to get distracted by anything, especially not by Enzo. I had to focus.

We arrived at the training grounds just as the instructor blew the whistle to signal the start of the first lesson. The field was already crowded with recruits, everyone lined up and waiting for instructions. Lili and I quickly took our places in line, breathing hard but relieved to have made it on time.

The head instructor, a tall, imposing woman with sharp eyes, began barking orders immediately. The first lesson was going to be intense—physical conditioning, hand-to-hand combat training, and endurance tests. It was clear that the academy wasn't going to waste any time easing us in. They wanted to see who had what it took to make it through.

As the instructor started the drills, I caught Enzo watching from across the field, his eyes following our group. Even though we weren't in the same class, I could feel his presence, his silent support. I knew he believed in me, and that thought gave me the strength to push through, even when the drills grew tougher and tougher.

I glanced at Lili, who gave me a thumbs-up despite the strain of the exercises. We were in this together, and no matter how tough it got, I knew I wasn't alone. This was just the beginning, and I was ready for whatever came next.
