"I'm telling you, the best way to get over a breakup is to hook up with someone new. Come on, Y/n! You've got to loosen up a bit!"
Ji-Ah was on a mission tonight—a mission to make me forget that my ex ever existed.I thought that birthdays were supposed to be filled with happiness right?
Then, why wasn't I happy on my birthday? The first thing that someone told me this morning wasn't a happy birthday wish, but it was to inform me that my boyfriend— oh wait, now my ex... was getting married the next month. And to my complete shock, we never broke up and he was already engaged?
Now, I know that he didn't go to Busan for a business trip last week. He went there to attend his own fucking engagement!I sighed, "I don't do one-night stands. What if the guy turns out to be a serial killer?"
We were seated in the loudest corner of the club, the thumping bass of the music practically shaking the floor beneath us."Oh come on! You'll be starting your new job in a few days right? A fresh start means a new you! And let it be tonight! You can try new things on birthdays,"
"Thank you for the offer, but I would humbly decline it," I replied in a dramatic way which made her roll her eyes.
I've already seen enough 'new things' for this year's birthday. I'll save the rest for next year.As Ji-Ah continued her pep talk about the benefits of a good, no-strings-attached fling, I found my eyes wandering across the crowded room. People were dancing, laughing, completely carefree. And then... I saw him.
In one corner of the club, leaning casually against the wall was a man—no, a stranger—but possibly the most handsome stranger I'd ever laid eyes on. Dark, tousled hair, sharp jawline, broad shoulders in a fitted black jacket. He wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary— just holding a glass of alcohol in his hand while talking to the people around me.
I didn't even realize but I was staring at him. I didn't mind though.
Staring is still better than being on top of each other. He looked up, and for a split second, our eyes locked.
My breath caught, heartbeat fastened as I immediately looked away.
Fuck! He caught me staring!Way to be subtle, Y/n.
When I dared to glance back again, he was gone.
I blinked a few times. What? Did I imagine him or what?My eyes wandered around the club and that is when I spotted someone. My stomach dropped.
There, waltzing into the club like he hadn't completely ruined my life, was Song Yo-Han. My fucking ex. And, of course, on his arm, the woman he was apparently getting married to. His fiancée. I hadn't even known she existed until today.
"Fuck!" I muttered under my breath
"What happened?"
"I'm leaving!" I said quickly, grabbing my purse and standing up.
"Huh? We are leaving already?"
"Not 'we'. I'm leaving, you can stay. I do not want to run into him," I gave her a quick hug, not bothering to explain more. She knew the whole situation—she'd probably lecture me for not confronting him, but I wasn't in the mood for more drama tonight.
"He is wearing a white shirt. Should I spill some red wine on him after you leave?"
I couldn't help but laugh when I saw the excitement on her face. Even if I refused, she'd do it anyway the moment I leave.
But tonight, I won't refuse."Just don't get yourself kicked out,"
"You got it!"
He was standing by the main exit so I couldn't take a risk and leave from there. Instead, I slipped out of the club from the exit at the back only to find myself in a quiet alley.
The air was cool, a stark contrast to the stifling heat inside. I leaned against the wall for a moment, closing my eyes and taking a deep breath.
