Long chapter ahead..
Taehyung was so lost in his own thoughts, so caught up in the whirlwind of emotions surrounding Jungkook, that he didn’t even notice Jimin approaching. His mind was running in circles, replaying every moment, every glance, every smile, trying to figure out how Jungkook truly felt.
It wasn’t until Jimin cleared his throat and sat down beside him that Taehyung snapped back to reality, startled out of his reverie.
Jimin, always perceptive and attuned to Taehyung’s moods, gave him a curious look. "You’ve been quiet for a while now," Jimin remarked, his voice soft but laced with concern. "Something on your mind, Tae?"
Taehyung blinked, trying to shake off the fog of his thoughts. He hadn’t realized how much time had passed, or how obvious his distraction had become.
Normally, he would have laughed it off, put on his usual carefree facade, but with Jimin, it was different. Jimin could always tell when something was weighing on him, and Taehyung knew there was no point in pretending otherwise.
He sighed, leaning back against the bench they were sitting on, staring out at the campus courtyard. "I don’t know, chim," Taehyung admitted after a moment. "I’ve just been… thinking about some things. A lot of things, actually."
Jimin raised an eyebrow, his curiosity deepening. "Things, huh? Does this happen to involve a certain someone with big eyes and a mischievous smile?"
Taehyung’s eyes widened slightly in surprise. He should’ve known Jimin would catch on, but still, the accuracy of his guess threw him off.
He glanced at Jimin, trying to play it cool, but the faint blush creeping up his cheeks betrayed him.
"What are you talking about?" Taehyung muttered, though the defensiveness in his tone made it clear that Jimin had hit the nail on the head.
Jimin chuckled, his knowing smile widening. "Come on, Taehyung. I’m not blind. You’ve been distracted every time Jungkook’s around, and it doesn’t take a genius to figure out why."
Taehyung groaned, burying his face in his hands.
Of course, Jimin would notice. He had been trying so hard to keep his feelings under wraps, to not let anyone see how flustered and confused he’d been.
But Jimin, being one of his closest friends, always had a way of seeing right through him.
There was no point in denying it anymore.
"Okay, fine," Taehyung mumbled through his hands. "Maybe I’ve been thinking about him. A lot."
Jimin’s expression softened as he leaned closer, sensing the seriousness of Taehyung’s tone. "What’s going on, Tae? Is it just a crush, or… is it something more?"
Taehyung lowered his hands, his eyes clouded with the same confusion he’d been wrestling with for weeks.
"I don’t know, chim," he admitted, his voice quieter now, more vulnerable. "That’s the problem. I don’t know if it’s just a crush, or if it’s something deeper. I feel so confused all the time. One minute, I think it’s love, and the next, I’m not sure if I even know what love is."
Jimin’s smile faded, replaced by a look of empathy. He reached out and gently placed a hand on Taehyung’s shoulder.
"It’s okay to not have all the answers right now. Feelings are messy, and love is even messier. But if Jungkook’s on your mind this much, maybe it’s worth exploring."
Taehyung sighed again, leaning into the comfort of Jimin’s words. "That’s the thing," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "I don’t even know how Jungkook feels. I’m scared that if I try to figure out what this is, I’ll end up making a fool of myself. What if he doesn’t feel the same? What if I’m just reading into things that aren’t even there?"
Jimin tilted his head, considering Taehyung’s words carefully before responding. "You won’t know unless you take the risk, Taehyung. I know it’s scary, but sometimes you have to put yourself out there, even if it feels vulnerable. If you keep bottling up these feelings, they’re going to weigh you down. Trust me, I’ve been there."
Taehyung looked at Jimin, surprised by the sincerity in his tone.
Jimin had always been the voice of reason among their group, but hearing him speak from his own experience made the advice hit differently.
"But what if I mess everything up?" Taehyung asked, his voice tinged with doubt.
Jimin shook his head, giving Taehyung’s shoulder a reassuring squeeze. "You won’t mess anything up by being honest about how you feel. And even if it doesn’t turn out the way you hope, at least you’ll have clarity. At least you won’t be stuck in your head, wondering ‘what if’ for the rest of your life."
Taehyung thought about it, letting Jimin’s words sink in. He knew Jimin was right.
The uncertainty was eating him alive, and it wasn’t just going to go away on its own.
But the idea of confronting Jungkook, of actually talking about his feelings, felt like standing at the edge of a cliff, unsure whether to jump or back away.
"Maybe…" Taehyung said slowly, still unsure, "Maybe I should try talking to him. But I don’t even know where to start."
Jimin smiled softly. "Start with something simple. You don’t have to pour your heart out right away. Just spend time with him, get to know him better. See how he responds. You’ll know when the time is right to be more open about your feelings."
Taehyung nodded, feeling a little lighter now, though the uncertainty still lingered. "Thanks, chim. I guess I needed to hear that."
"Anytime, Tae," Jimin said with a grin, patting his shoulder before standing up. "Just don’t overthink it too much. You’ve got this."
As Jimin walked away, Taehyung sat there for a moment, processing their conversation.
He still didn’t have all the answers, but at least now, he had a little more courage to face the uncertainty head-on.
