The shift flew past faster than I had thought it would and I was very grateful. There was plenty of single women hitting on Tom but then that was nothing new. Any one with eyes could see how attractive he was. Must be something about those baby blues and his height. It seemed that most of the women would do anything for a tall man in this town. Tom was more than that though. He had always been there for me. Tom was especially great at giving gifts. One of my birthdays he got me this beat up old car with the money he had saved from working at the pub. I have no idea how much he paid for it but he had always been good with mechanics and so whenever it refused to start he would always manage to get it going no matter what. There had been a few mornings when I thought we wouldn't make it to school on time but he would tinker under the bonnet and suddenly the engine would roar to life.
I snuck a glance at him along the bar where he was politely declining a leggy brunettes number that she was not so subtly sliding across the bar and batting her eyelashes at him. He was never interested in the girls at the pub but I've never asked him about it. I figured he had that side of his life out when I wasn't around. As much as we were in each other's pockets some things are best kept secret.
"Tom, can I get some help down here in the cellar? One of the ale barrels needs changing and I can't seem to get it off the rack." I called over to him. I know I didn't get involved in his dating business but he was really struggling to get rid of the stunning brunette. Tom shot a grateful look at me as he headed my way. I grabbed him and hauled him to the corridor to the cellar. "There is no barrel to deal with right?" He smiled, his eyes crinkling at the sides.
"You got me! It looked pretty tense down there with that hot girl." I winked at him and lightly punched his arm.
"She was really nice but she just kept on. I'm guessing she was a bit drunk but she was hard to shake off." He lightly punched me back and put one hand behind my head on the wall. I suddenly noticed how small this corridor was. I could smell his cologne he had worn since he learnt what cologne was. Davidoff Cool Water. It was a good scent and it smelt particularly good on him intertwined with his own woody scent. I looked up into his azure blue eyes and noticed he was watching me closely and his gaze dropped down to my mouth. The room seemed to close in slightly as he leaned in further and placed his hand other hand above my head against the fire safety sign. Tom leant his head down and his lips drew closer to mine.
