Chrisen

"Have you been waiting long?" I asked Cindy, seeing her waiting for me in the parking lot. It's our first day of school, and she said she'd accompany me.

"Not long, just ten minutes," she replied.

"Where's Cael?" I asked about her brother.

Cindy smiled mischievously. "Do you miss him already?"

I giggled. "No, it's just that I'm not used to seeing you without him."

She grasped my arm. "It's okay. He's going to be late. He needs to learn that I'm not always there to wake him up."

I smiled. "So you just let him sleep?"

"Yes, let's go." She led me to the hall.

"I'll drop you off at your room. Cael should be with you today since you have the same classes, but sometimes he's unreliable."

I chuckled. "It's okay. I don't want to depend on anyone."

As we walked, I noticed many students glancing at me, probably because I'm new. We soon arrived at the Business Ad building.

"I'll see you later in the cafeteria."

I nodded then she left. Just then, someone called my name. I turned to see Cael, panting from running.

He exchanged a fist bump with Cindy. "Hey! You're quite late, Cael."

"Good morning too, Chrisen! Please don't state the obvious."

I giggled. He handed me a white rose.

"White means purity," I thought. Maybe his intentions are really genuine.

"I know you said you love someone else, but don't expect me to stop loving you easily, Chrisen. You're strong, great, and gorgeous. Even if we're just friends, friends can show appreciation."

I beamed, touched by Cael's words. He's the ideal gentleman next door.

Why didn't I notice him before? Maybe because I'm too focus and blinded by Porcia.

I accepted the rose. "Thank you, Cael, but don't worry that much."

I gazed into his sincere eyes. Maybe I should give him a chance?

Now that I'm divorced, I have no chance with Porcia. I deserve a happy ending with someone else, right?

"I won't stop you if you want to court me," I said.

Cael's face lit up. "Yes-"

"Shut up, Mr. Denares."

Cael's excitement was cut off by a familiar voice behind me. Despite not hearing it for two weeks, I knew it all too well. My heart raced. I hate this feeling.

I'd avoided Porcia, spending time with Cindy and Cael instead. Whenever mommy Kaede invited Porcia over for dinner, I'd stay with Cindy.

I couldn't blame them; they'd been close for a long time. And Porcia taught here, making our encounter inevitable.

"Sorry, professor Hart," Cael said.

"Let's get inside, Cael," I said casually, ignoring Porcia and pulling Cael into the classroom.

We sat in the second row, avoiding the front seats.

"Good morning, professor Hart!" my classmates greeted.

Porcia closed the door, looking irritable. After arranging her materials, she swept the room with a cold gaze.

Her eyes locked onto mine, and I matched her intense gaze. It takes two to tango, and I'm Chrisen Miller who doesn't care.
