it was nearing midnight when sowon finally crawled into bed for the night. the silence of her apartment was deafening, the stillness allowed space for her thoughts to echo freely. each unspoken worry and lingering doubt filled the room, amplifying her feelings of isolation.
the days and nights seemed to start to blend together, and sowon couldn't help but to feel lost in cycle. midnight blurred into four in the morning; she couldn't remember what she had spent her hours doing– scrolling online, maybe? where did the time go? just like that, it was already time to wake up again. having slept or not, she would get up out of bed and start her day.
with a heavy sigh, she closed her eyes and whispered, "i just wish that one day i could wake up as someone else– anyone but me."
outside, the night sky shimmered with millions of distant stars, their lights twinkling with a new found hope. her words lingered in the stillness of the clear night. a shooting star streaked across the sky, unseen. still, it blazed across the darkness for just a moment.
for sowon, that moment was just another night spent in despair. unbeknownst to get, the universe was listening, ready to answer her plea in a way she could never have imagined.
