I fly towards the mountains, overjoyed at the fact that there's snow. Snow! Endless amounts of white fluffy snow, where I'll be camouflaged and be at the perfect temperature. Water won't be a problem — I can melt snow if I'm desperate enough. But before I even reach the snow, the cannons start to fire. Deaths.

One cannon. Two. Three. Four. Then the cannons stop. Four tributes dead. Twenty left to compete. That's good,  I think. Less dragons to kill. However, as I near the mountains, I notice a small pack forming. I squint. There's a few of them. The Career tributes, the tributes from Districts 1, 2, and 4, and one more tribute. The female LeafWing from District 6. I remember that she's a fierce, snarly thing, but I forgot her name. Her district partner was creepy. Anyways, seven dragons is a pretty big pack, so I burrow down in the nearest snow and wait until they fly away. Then, I continue into the mountains.

Food is a priority. IceWings are built to handle extreme temperatures, but that will make finding prey hard. I will have to hunt near the frozen streams and the woods.

However, as I look for a good snow bank to settle down in, a large female IceWing rises from a nearby snow bank, snarling. It's Snowfall, my district partner!

"Snowfall!" I say. She doesn't stop snarling. Her scales are wet and shiny, so she was probably here way before I was. "It's me!"

She stares at me,  assessing my threat level, deciding whether or not to attack.

"It's the Hunger Games, you know," she finally gets out.

"I know, I know," I say, backing away slowly. "But we don't have to fight."

She stares at me again.

"... are you suggesting an alliance?" Snowfall asks.

I blink and glance around. "Uh... am I?" I say. I look at her more closely and see her relaxing. "Well, I guess yes." It would be good to have an ally. I'd survive longer with someone else, and working together would make a huge difference in my chances. And her chances. She must see that, too. However, Snowfall still looks wary, so I add, "We'll have better chances if we work together."

Finally, Snowfal speaks. "Alright," she says grumpily. "We'll make an alliance."

"Nice," I say, allowing myself to smile. Snowfall doesn't smile back or anything, but I can see that she's letting her guard down around me. However, she's still keeping an eye on the pack in the distance. After a few moments of silence, Snowfall stands up and turns to head further into the mountains.

"Come on, Lynx, we've got a game to win."
