CHAPTER TWENTY SEVEN
[ real life ]

real life!

it was the next day at school and you would think the rumour released would've been about the whole group seeing at the way everyone was staring.

lucy wasn't afraid of passing each and every one of them her harsh looks, nick joining her as layla walked quietly beside matthew. chris just stared ahead, his expression empty as he made his way to his locker. he didn't bother to interact with anyone like normal.

what was the point? she wasn't here. he thought.
it wasn't a surprise she hadn't shown up, though it was disappointing. and it didn't stop the worry spreading through his chest constantly.

he had spammed her with texts through the past week and thankfully even though the two weren't at a good place right now, she had replied to chris letting him know she was safe and okay.

but he knew it was a lie. as long as she and anna was anywhere near that man, they weren't safe.

it seemed like all he did these days was just wish to be next to her.

sighing, chris opened his locker grabbing out the books he needed and stuffed them pathetically into his bag.

"chrissy, my favourite boy. how are you doin? you don't look so good" he heard caitlin approach him. and the smugness in her voice was enough to get him angry.

chris knew he didn't look good either. the dark purple eye bags weighing him down told that him.

in frustration, he slammed his locker shut and tried walking away. he didn't say a word to her.

"not so fast. what's with the hostile attitude?" she walked beside him, playing with her hair.

"leave me alone" she laughed at his words "you don't want that, trust me"

"why wouldn't i?" he snapped back, no matter the sped he walked she still kept up with him, even in her heeled boots.

"because i know" she said, a smirk on her face. but chris turned to look at her, confusion on his face at her half finished sentence. she sounded stupid.

"know what?"

slightly embarrassed, caitlin huffed, brushing through her hair "i know who spilled the rumour." she paused for a second, taking his reaction in. he just looked at her, not saying anything, afraid that she was messing with him. deciding on not believing her, he shook his head and tried to continue walking.
