Chapter 8- Walk this way

     I quickly got up and went to open it, standing in front of me was Jared. “what do you want?” I whispered. “we need to talk.” he said and headed straight for my bed sitting on the edge of it. I closed the door so that my parents wouldn’t hear us and walked over to my bed sitting on the opposite edge of the bed facing Jared. “why can’t you just be happy for me like everyone else?” I asked, now filling with anger. “you’re my baby sister and you’re marrying my best friend, how can I possibly be happy?” “you should be happy about the fact that I found love.” “but I don’t think he’s right for you.” “why is it that everyone says that?!” I said, almost yelling. “maybe because it’s true. And who else said it?” “how do you know that it’s true? How do I know if you’re not just  extremely pissed off because I’m marrying one of your friends. And Kellan did.” 

       “Vada, I’m only saying this because I care about you. Lucas, yes, he’s extremely nice. But he’s not your type. He’s predictable, and you’re so spontaneous, that even you give ME whiplash.” “you’re the most spontaneous person that I know, Jared.” “exactly, so if I’m saying that you give me whiplash, that’s saying something. Kellan is more your type Vada.”  “ok, how much did he pay you?” “nothing, I’m just stating a fact. You two are perfect for each other. And plus, I think that you’re rushing into the marriage. You should live life a little, you just became an adult. You’re not even 21 yet, hell, you haven’t even reached 20! And you’re already getting married.”  I looked down because I knew that he was right. “look, I’m not saying this to change your mind. Go ahead and marry Lucas if you want. But, I am giving you some food for thought, just so you can figure out what you really want.” I couldn’t speak, I just nodded my head. He kissed my forehead and walked out of my room.

    That was a good question, what did I really want? Did I really want to be tied down since now, when I just turned 18. I haven’t even finished high school, much less, applied for a college yet? Is marrying Lucas the right thing to do? It could be completely wrong but it feels so right. I think Jared is right, I need some time to think about this. But for now, I just needed to get some sleep.

     The next morning I woke up to a text message from Kellan.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY V. - KEL.  I smiled, because I had totally forgotten that it was my birthday today. I typed back   THANKS KEL. SEE YA 2NITE. I HAVE 2 TELL U AND ATHY SOMETHNG. -BABY V.  then I got a message from Athena HEY HEY BABY V. OFFICIALLY 18!!! WOOHOO!! SEE YA LATER - ATHY. I smiled and wrote back YOU KNOW IT!! :D, CYA!-BABY V.  and then proceeded to get dressed. 

        I settled on a purple blouse and a pair of jeans with some gladiators. I picked up my hair in a ponytail. I looked in the mirror, not bad. I dashed down the stairs, my brother was seated in his usual spot, my mother was making coffee, and my dad had left a long time ago. “Happy birthday Vada.” they both said. I smiled. That’s when my brother handed me a small box, “aww, thanks Jared, but you didn’t have to get me anything.” “I know, but you’re my baby sister. And you just became an adult, so I thought that it was sort of a big deal.” I opened the tiny blue box and in it was a silver heart necklace with diamonds encrusted in it. With “Vada” engraved on it. I gasped “Jared, it’s beautiful. You shouldn’t have spent all this money.” Jared smiled at me and said “it’s for my baby sister. I could spend all the money I feel like.” I gave him a hug and he put the necklace on me.

       Then my mother gave me her present for me that was from her and my dad, it was a white lace shirt, a pair of skinny jeans and  a pair of high heeled ruffled shoes. I squealed and hugged her, and immediately ran to change. Soon after breakfast, Athena showed up at my house with a box containing a pair of sunglasses and Kellan gave me a red Aerosmith T-shirt. And we spent the day out on the town. Finally, it was dinner time and they refused to tell me where we were going. 

       Around 8, we pulled up in front of  Club SET on south beach. “what on Earth are we doing here?” I asked Athena, “oh, um, Lady Gaga’s performing tonight, we got tickets.” she said. “oh!! You guys know me soo well!! I’m a little monster!” “yup yup.”. we went in, and it was dark. “what is this? Special effects?” I asked. “no, um, the show hasn’t started yet, it starts at nine. But, we, um, got you backstage passes.” Athena says. “we did?” Kellan asked and Athena smacks him across the arm “oh yeah we did!!”. then my 2 best friends lead me to the back of the club. My eyes were adjusting to the darkness when the lights are flicked on and all of my friends and family jump out yelling “SURPRISE!!!!!!!!!” . “what the…” I began. And my mom leads me to the bathroom where I changed into a halter mixed Zebra and Cheetah print dress. 

       I was enjoying the party for about two hours and then Lucas jumps on stage and says “tonight, Is my beautiful girlfriend’s birthday, but I also want to say that we have something else to celebrate; Me and Vada are getting married!” he yells into the microphone, and the entire room goes silent. I hear one of Kellan’s friends yell “WOO!” but that’s all the noise we heard. This was definitely awkward.
