Chapter 2

I felt the burning of eyes behind my head so I closed the door behind her and let her know she's welcome to food and drinks.

I let her know her stuff upstairs in the guest room with my cousins. I quietly said to not let everyone hear. She nodded then grabbed Desmine's arm helping her up then headed upstairs with her toward the room she was given directions to. As I turned to my guests some looked as if they were waiting for the details. I saw Frances face light up with a pizza slice in hand.

"Sleepover." I stated. Those that knew Desmine was my cousin and met her were mainly Sam, Cyrus, Rex, Sara, Robert, Penny, Elizabeth, Frances and Birdie. Which left the two boys Daniel, Theodore and the two girls Audrey and Daija. Obviously ignoring the kids because they're 6 or under and they don't give a shit about my cousin or her friend.

"You didn't tell us she was coming!" Sara said covering her mouth while chewing.

"It was very last minute, she had called me this afternoon."

"Jeez that's such a late call. She's lucky to have you that is always ready for her to come." Rex chimed in.

"Of course she has a room at all houses. Anywhere I stay I make sure she has a place especially since her school abroad has sometimes random breaks and I want her to feel welcome."

"That's so sweet, she knows how much you love her." Sara looked to her daughter, "that's what I hope for our Hanna banana, that she knows she's loved and welcome home whenever." She pushed Hanna's hair that was in front of her face gently parting and putting the loose strands behind her ears.

Hanna looked up and asked, "is there any juice mommy?" Completely oblivious to our conversation and in her own little world.

"Talking of juice, there's some in the fridge and I have to pull out more to refill the fridge." I made my way to the garage and let the weighted door slam shut behind me. I turned to my right to my shelves and started putting on the side a case of mixed soda and just before I could grab the juice boxes the garage door opened.

I looked up and locked eyes with Daija, "do you need any help? I can help you bring something's inside." She looked nervously at the shelves. "You don't have to, but if you're going to insist on it then the juice boxes because they're the lightest and no point in overworking you when you're here to chill." She took a step closer and smiled and put her hands towards me as if waiting for her boxes.

I passed her two different flavored boxes, "If you can, can you open these and put them in the fridge that should be 20 and enough for the munchkins." She took them and went inside. I took a deep breath and carried the soda and case of beer on top. Just before I could open the door it was swung back. Daija held the door open, "thought you'd need some help."

"Thank you Daija, again." She held the door then lightly closing it so it wouldn't slam. I could feel her eyes on me. As I was walking down the hallway Alaine was coming down the last step causing me to almost drop the cases. "Oh my I'm so sorry I didn't know you guys were there or I would've waited." She quickly said like word vomit.

"It's okay, neither of us hurt and nothing broken." Alaine grabbed the beer case on top. "Why are you carrying so much, I'll get this for you." I could feel Daija behind me with the hair standing up on the back of my neck. "Thank you Alaine. Much appreciated."
