A beeping sound could be heard from the kitchen. "Sounds like dinner's ready!" Chilli said before turning to Bandit. "Honey, can you go round up the kids and get your mum up? I think she went up to the guest room," She asked. "On it," Bandit said with a weirdly determined look on his face. He stood up from the couch and walked out of the room. "Is there anything I can do Mrs. Heeler?" I asked. She turned to me and smiled. "If you could set the table that would be great!" she said, "Also you can just call me Chilli. We're all on a first name basis here." She and Brandy started making their way to the kitchen with me in tow. Chilli showed me where the dishes were and told me how many places to set. I took a stack of 9 plates and a hefty amount of silverware with me to the dining room. I proceeded to carefully set the table as I had been taught to, complete with these two little salt and pepper shakers made to look like royal guards. It gave me a chuckle. By the time I was done setting the table, people were starting to file in. First came Grandpa Bob, who gave me a nod and sat at the end of the table. Then came Stripe with, who almost got tripped by Bluey and Bingo as they ran by his legs. When I finally sat down I was immediately joined by Bluey and Bingo on either side of me. Bluey turned to Stripe. "Uncle Stripe?" She asked, "Where's Muffin?" Stripe hesitated for a moment before answering. "Uh... Muffin had a bit of a meltdown earlier today, so she's back home with Socks and your Aunt Trix," He said. "Awww, but that means Oscar won't get to meet them!" Bluey whined. Stripe chuckled. "Don't worry about it kid. They'll meet eventually," he said. I wasn't sure if that was a good thing or not.
The next group to join the party was this older blue heeler with Bandit behind her. "Come on mum," he said, "You can sit right here." He proceeded to pull a seat out for her. She completely ignored him and made a beeline over to me. "And who might this be?" She asked while adjusting her pink glasses. "Oh I'm-" "That's Oscar!" Bluey said while cutting me off, "Aunt Brandy is his mum!" "Oh! You're the handsome one Bandit was telling me about! Well I'm Chris, or you could call me Nana if you'd like." I smiled at her. "Well it's very nice to meet you," I said. Chris turned and walked to the other side of the table, where she took a seat next to Bob. In came Chilli, holding what looked to be a pot roast. Brandy followed closely behind with a couple side dishes. They placed the food on the table and took their own seats. Chilli sat next to Bandit, and Brandy sat on the other side of Bluey. Almost immediately the guys started loading their plates. I turned to Bingo, "Do you want me to load your plate?" I asked. "Yes please," She responded. I took her plate and loaded it with a small portion of each food item at the table before setting it in front of her. I then proceeded to load my own plate. The food was delicious, savory and seasoned perfectly. However, I did notice that Bingo was not enjoying the vegetables. I guess that much can be expected from a five year old. "The food's amazing Chilli," I said. "Well thank you," she responded with a smile. Bluey, who looked like she was trying to set a land speed record with her mouth, was scarfing down her food as fast as she could. As soon as she finished she turned to her mum. "May I be excused?" She asked. Chilli looked surprised, "You're done eating already?" She asked. "Fine. You're excused," She said. Bluey hopped down from her chair and grabbed my paw. "Come on Oscar! You too Bingo!" She said. I laughed. "Hang on a second," I interjected, "Some people are still eating." "Alright fine," Bluey said, "Just come to the playroom when you're done." "Uh... okay?" I responded. With that Bluey turned and left the dining room. I heard Bandit chuckle from across the table. "You're in for it mate," he said. Ignoring that weirdly cryptic line, I went back to eating my food. Once I was done eating I cleared my plate and got up to go join Bluey, and Bingo soon followed.
I went back through the family room to get to the playroom, and when I got there I saw Bluey rummaging through some toy box. "Alright I'm here. What do you want to do?" I asked. "Hm... I'm not sure," She said. "Bingo! What should we do?" She asked. Bingo chimed in from behind me, "Let's play salon!" She shouted. "Salon? Like a nail salon?" I asked. "Yeah, but we'll probably do your hair too," she said. "Uh.....okay.... If you're sure," I said, now realizing what I may have gotten myself into. "Yay!" The two girls shouted in unison. "Now leave and then come back pretending you want to get your hair and nails done," Bluey said. "Aw man, I'm not good at that kind of pretending Bluey," I explained. "Just try your best and you'll be fine!" She said, "Now shoo!" I turned and walked back out of the playroom, closing the door behind me. I waited in the living room for a few seconds before reopening the door and walking in. "Good evening!" Bluey said while standing behind a cardboard box. I was actually impressed with how fast they set it up. They had a whole reception area. "Hello," I said while trying to sound as casual as possible, "I'd like to get my hair and nails done." "Certainly," Bluey said, "Please follow my assistant into the back." Bingo proceeded to appear out of nowhere right next to me, making me jump a little. "Come with me," Bingo said with a posh accent. She led me back behind their makeshift counter and over to a chair that was obviously way too small for me. "Please take a seat," She said, gesturing to the chair. "Uh... okay," I said while taking a seat in the chair. Then Bingo dragged a couch cushion in front of me. "Now put your feet up here," she said while patting the cushion. I did as she said, propping my feet up on the cushion. Bingo then shoved a magazine into my paws. "Here you can read this while you wait!" She exclaimed before leaving. I chuckled to myself and opened the magazine. It was an old edition of Who Magazine from the year before. I flipped through it and pretended to read a few articles. From behind me I heard a loud "Hello!" I yelled and just about jumped out of my skin. I turned around and saw Bluey standing there with a wide smile. "Gosh Bluey! You can't sneak up on me like that," I said. "Sorry! Now what color would you like?" She asked, holding up a few bottles of nail polish. "Woah woah woah, I didn't know we were using real nail polish!" I said, "I thought this was just pretend." "Well we ARE pretending this is a real salon!" Bluey responded. "I'm sorry Bluey but I don't want my nails painted," I explained. "Aww!" she whined, "But you said you'd play!" "I know I did, but I didn't think you were actually gonna paint my nails!" I explained. Bluey proceeded to do something I had never seen before. Her ears went back, tears welled up in her eyes, her pupils grew to the size of tennis balls, and her lip quivered to top it all off. "Please?" She asked in a long, drawn out way. Needless to say, I caved almost immediately. I sighed and said, "Alright fine, I'll.... take the green please." Almost as if a switch had been flipped, the act completely disappeared. Bluey returned to her happy, cheery self. "Yay! Bingo he said yes!" She yelled behind her. Bingo appeared just as she had earlier, "YES!" She said excitedly. By this point I was already regretting my decision, but how could I back out now?
It didn't take long for them to get started. Bluey took out the green polish and started painting my nails. She even had those little pieces of styrofoam they put between your toes. I hated to admit it but the dark green polish actually complimented my fur quite nicely. What happened next, however, was not so appealing. I felt a tug at the back of my head and noticed Bingo had started putting hair curlers on me. "What are you doing?" I asked her. "You said you wanted your hair done too didn't you?" she said. I sighed. "Yeah... I guess I did say that," I responded. After about 10 minutes of this, both Bingo and Bluey were done with their parts. "You look fabulous," Bluey said as she held up a mirror in front of me. I most definitely did not look fabulous. The hair curlers were sprawled randomly across my head. I looked like I had the worst hair day of my life, but of course I couldn't say that to them. "O-oh. Yeah it looks... uh..... Great! Exactly what I was looking for," I said. The girls seemed to accept that answer. Suddenly a flash of light caught the corner of my eye. I looked over to see Brandy standing there with her camera out, clearly having just snapped a picture of this moment. Chilli was standing not far behind her. "Aww," Brandy said, "Look at them getting along with each other." "Oh boy," I muttered under my breath, "I'm not gonna live this one down." "Alright kids," Chilli said, "Say bye to Oscar. He and Brandy have to get going." "Awww man!" Bluey whined, "But we wanna keep playing!" "I know," Chilli said, "But you'll see each other again soon." I stood up, quickly taking off the hair curlers they'd placed on me. I noticed there was a hair clip on my tail, which I took off as well. "Alright squirts, I'll catch you later okay?" I said. Both girls proceeded to give me a quick hug, which I returned. "Bye Oscar," Bluey said, "See you later." I smiled and made my way over to Brandy. The two of us walked together back to the front door, followed by Chilli. Bandit was already standing there when we arrived. He whistled when he saw me. "Boy they did a number on you," He said with a smile. "How'd you get roped into that one?" He asked. "I'm not too sure to be honest," I said, "It was weird. Bluey just did this thing with her face, and I found it impossible to say no." Bandit chuckled. "Yeah that would be her 'please' face. Believe me mate, it doesn't get any easier," he said. "Well we best be going," Brandy chimed in. "Okay," I said, "It was nice meeting you guys! Tell Stripe, Bob, and Chris the same for me." "Will do mate, see you around," Bandit responded. Brandy gave Chilli a quick hug, and we were off.
