I put down my book and followed Bandit towards the front door. When we got there we found Chilli had already opened the door and was talking to someone, though I wasn't really paying attention to the conversation. Once I was close enough to get a good look I saw just one blue heeler standing outside the door. Bandit spoke up first. "Where's the kids?" he asked Chilli and the other woman. "Oh they ran off to go find Bluey and Bingo, Chilli responded. The blue heeler must've noticed me standing towards the back. "You must be Oscar!" She said as she strode towards me, her purse swaying by her side, "Stripe was telling me about you just this morning! Anyway, I'm Trixie." "Well it's nice to meet you," I said with a smile. The four of us stood by the door just making small talk for a little while, but we were interrupted by Bluey. "Oscar you gotta come see Muffin and Socks!" She said. "Oh....uh.....okay," I responded. I was a little apprehensive because I had heard some questionable things about these "other cousins." I followed Bluey out of the entryway and through the dining room to the play room. Bingo was off in the corner of the room running a doctor's office of some kind, and there were these two blue heelers sitting in the makeshift reception area. I assumed this had to be Muffin and Socks, though I had no idea who was who. The little one was sitting quietly in one of the seats with her legs swinging back and forth. The older one on the other hand, who appeared to be just slightly younger than Bingo, was having some sort of meltdown. She was demanding to be seen by the doctor. Bluey ran over to them. "Muffin! Calm down!" she exclaimed, "The doctor will see you when she's ready!" The blue heeler, who I now knew was Muffin, seemed to listen. She went over and sat down next to the younger heeler, who I assumed was Socks, and she crossed her arms in a huff. "Did aunt Trixie tell you about Oscar?" Bluey asked Muffin. "Yeah mum told us in the car," she responded. At this point I made my way over to them. "Hi! You two must be Muffin and Socks right?" I said. "Yes," Muffin responded. Socks also gave a small greeting, but she seemed pretty shy. "So what do you guys wanna do?" I asked. Bluey seemed like she was about to say something, but she was interrupted. "Kids! Lunch!" Chilli called from the other room. "Hold that thought. We'll play after lunch," I said.
I started to walk out of the playroom, and the other 4 followed me. Bandit and Trixie were talking in the kitchen, and Chilli seemed to be finishing up on lunch. "Go ahead and take a seat in the dining room," she said. The 4 younger kids ran off to the dining room, but Bandit waved me over. I walked over to where he and Trixie were standing. "What's up?" I asked. "Hey mate. I just wanted to ask you how your first night with Brandy went," Bandit said. "Oh it was alright," I responded, "I slept okay." "That's good to hear," he said, "I know how hard it can be sleeping in a new place. The first time the kids slept over at Nana's house had a heck of a time falling asleep from what I heard." I nodded and responded, "Yeah I can get that, but last night wasn't too bad. It was probably around midnight before I got to sleep, but I got there nonetheless." I went and sat at the dining table, and we all had lunch together. The table talk wasn't anything interesting until we got to the topic of school. "So what grade are you in anyway Oscar?" Trixie asked. "I'm a Sophomore," I responded. "Do you do any extracurriculars?" Bandit asked. "I'm in the band," I said, "I play the Alto Saxophone, and we actually have our winter concert coming up in a few days." Bluey gasped when she heard this. "You mean you play Saxophone for real life!?" she exclaimed. I laughed. "Yeah. I'll be sure to bring it next time I see you," I said. Once we were done with lunch I helped Chilli clear all the plates before going back to the playroom. Bluey had already started setting up her game of choice. "Okay," she said, "We're going to put on a concert for you." "Oh.. uh... okay," I responded. I took a seat in one of the chairs that had been set up for the audience. All the other seats were occupied by various stuffed animals. In front of me were all four kids set up with instruments. Bluey had this little piano, Bingo had a keytar, Muffin had a xylophone, and Socks had some bongos or some other kind of drum. "Welcome to the concert," Bluey said in this fancy tone, "Please do enjoy." With that they all started playing their instruments at once. There was no count off or anything. It was quite painful to listen to, and they all obviously had no idea what they were doing. It was adorable, but quite loud. I have pretty sensitive ears, and it took a lot of effort not to cover them. I didn't want to offend anyone, so I just smiled and listened. Every once in a while a horribly erroneous note would make me cringe. After what seemed like forever they finally finished, and each of them bowed. I started clapping and whistled a few times. "That was great! I think you guys could be musicians," I said. They all seemed pretty excited by that.
The doorbell rang once again. A few minutes later Brandy came walking into the playroom. "Alright Oscar, it's time to go," she said. "Wow you're early," I responded, "Alright guys, I'll see you another time okay?" They each gave me a goodbye, and I left with Brandy. When we got back to the front door Bandit, Chilli, and Trixie were there. "Thanks for having him," Brandy said." "Oh it's no problem at all," Chilli responded. Trixie gave me a quick hug. "It was great meeting you Oscar," she said. "You too," I responded. With that Brandy and I made our exit.
