Harry's POV
After we got snitched on by Draco Malfoy, McGonagall led the five of us into her office and then proceeded to yell at us.
McGonagall: Nothing, I repeat, nothing gives a student the right to walk the school at night. Therefore, as punishment for your actions, 50 points will be taken from you.
Harry: 50?!
McGonagall: Each.
We all gasped except Malfoy, who didn't seem to care about 50 points being deducted from his own house due to Daphne being a Slytherin.
McGonagall: And to ensure that it doesn't happen again, all six of you shall receive detention.
Malfoy's smirk disappeared and it was replaced with a look of confusion. He spoke with politeness which would probably be the first and last time we heard him speak like that.
Draco: Excuse me, Professor. Perhaps I heard you wrong. I thought you said, "The six of us."
McGonagall: No, you heard me correctly, Mr. Malfoy. You see, as honorable as your intentions were, you too were out of bed after hours. You will join your classmates for detention.
Malfoy looked horrified as we all grinned at him.
McGonagall: Now all of you, off to bed. Except you, Mr. Spector.
Ron, Hermione, Daphne, and I turned around as Jake stayed where he was. Daphne gave Jake a hug before the four of us made our way toward our respective common rooms. Daphne separated from me, Hermione, and Ron without even saying goodnight, and I didn't even blame her.
Hopefully, no one would ask how Gryffindor had managed to lose 150 points overnight.
Jake's POV
After the others left, I watched as Professor McGonagall sat behind her desk and looked at me.
McGonagall: Please, Jacob, have a seat.
I looked at her stunned. She had never referred to me by my first name. I just sat down and looked across from her as McGonagall seemed to gather her thoughts.
McGonagall: You remind me so much of your parents, Jacob.
Jake: Uh, you never met my mom, Professor.
McGonagall: Not your adoptive mother, but your birth parents. I knew them well.
My expression changed from confusion to curiosity. If McGonagall knew my birth parents, maybe I could get some information on them out of her.
McGonagall: I remember when those two first met. It was during their Transfiguration class. They sat next to each other at my behest. Your mother was an exceptionally talented witch while your father was the same, albeit more of a troublemaker. They were opposites to one another. Much like two of their closest friends, Lily and James Potter.
Jake: Wait, my parents knew Harry's?
McGonagall: Indeed, Jacob. Matter of fact, your father and Mr. Potter's mother were adoptive siblings. I'm sure your adoptive mother told you about the concept of pure-blood supremacy, did she not?
Jake: She did. Why?
McGonagall: Well, your father's birth family disowned him simply because he didn't share their views. Your father lived in the streets when Lily and her family found him and took him in.
Jake: So that would make me and Harry cousins?
Professor McGonagall nodded.
Jake: But, Professor, I don't think that was the reason you kept me back.
