When Lena and Max walked into her office, Emily's instincts kicked in.
"Tell me everything," Emily said, her eyes locked onto Max.
Max recounted the events, from the mysterious figure to the ominous phone call.
Emily listened intently, her expression unreadable.
"I believe you," Emily said finally. "But we need proof."
Lena's hope surged.
"Where do we start?" Lena asked.
Emily smiled.
"I have a few ideas."
As they discussed strategies, Lena felt a sense of relief. Finally, someone was listening.
But just as they were making progress, Emily's phone rang.
"Rodriguez," Emily answered.
Her expression darkened.
"I'll be right there."
"What is it?" Max asked.
Emily's voice was grim.
"Another body's been found."
Lena's heart sank.
"Connected to your case?" Max asked.
Emily nodded.
"We're running out of time."
