My next days and weeks in Italy passed very carefree. I helped my dad's company with some paperwork, babysat my sister's baby so Jules and her could steal a few romantic evenings together, and told my brothers what was in store for them at university. Marta, on the other hand, took it as her life's mission to help me update my wardrobe a bit. She and I often went to all the designer stores. I rediscovered a new world with clothes, shoes and jewelry. Slowly, I was starting to become a fashionista. As for Charles, after never responding to his message, he hasn't tried to reach me again. This proves my theory that he only contacted me as a courtesy because he may have been worried.
It was finally the end of July and the reason I was looking forward to it so much was because our big family trip was coming up. This morning we were leaving for Monaco, from where we would set sail on our yacht tomorrow, touring several destinations. Oh, how I loved Monaco. Life there seemed to have slowed down and everyone was living in wonderful harmony. I was so impatient that for the first time I was ahead of everyone and waited for them outside the house with my huge suitcases. All the way, my mother kept asking my father questions about the luggage and worrying that she might have forgotten something. My father was very calm and kept reassuring her that even if she had forgotten something, we could buy it in Monaco. I was very excited because baby Gabriella was coming with us for the first time.
It was early afternoon and we had already checked into the Hotel de Paris where we were going to spend the night. I was alone in my room, reading a book in peace. I knew that once I left the room my mother or brothers would pick me up for a chat. My phone rang. It was Marta. Strange, but we had heard each other an hour ago when I called to tell her we had arrived safely. "Did something happen?" was my question as soon as I picked up the phone. I heard her chuckle lightly. "No, Soph. Calm down." she paused briefly "I thought it would be a surprise, but I didn't hold back." "What's going on?" I stood up and walked over to the window. "I'll be with you in about half an hour!" she shouted happily. I squealed happily like a little girl in response too. "I can't believe it! Why didn't you tell me earlier?" "Soph, it wouldn't have been a surprise like that. Wear something nice because we're going to party in Monaco tonight, honey!" was the last thing she said to me before hanging up.
I was so happy that I directly closed the book I was reading and opened my suitcases to look for a suitable outfit for tonight. I wasn't a party girl at all, but I couldn't say no to my best friend. My parents shouldn't be mad at me either, since we're sailing together tomorrow anyway and we're going to be spending a very long time together. I played my favorite song at the moment - the weeknd - dancing in the flames - maybe even an idea louder, but I didn't care. I started looking around at my clothes and separating them into two piles - one was for 'would be appropriate' while the other was 'completely inappropriate'. Thank goodness I've managed to improve my style in the last month - now it was much easier to find something beautiful to wear. Since it was a woman's night out, I decided to go for a sexy bodycon dress and heels.
