MODERN AU

Xiao approached Scaramouche, who was sulking in a corner behind some trees in the park near his house.

"Scaramouche?" the teal haired boy asked wearily, crouching down to Scaramouche.

He grumbled something in response to Xiao. The indigo haired boy seemed upset and pissed about something. Xiao observed his face carefully, trying to read his emotions. He paused as he realised.

"You had another argument with your mother."

"...read me like a book," Scaramouche muttered in response.

Xiao sighed and placed a hand on Scaramouche's shoulder.

"You don't have to hide how you feel, you know."

Scaramouche's anger was clear. But his hurt was not. It still hurt when he argued with his mother and the rest of his family put him in the blame despite hating them for a long time. Xiao was reading him perfectly though. He knew how the other boy felt even when he hid it so well. Scaramouche felt himself be pulled into a warm embrace from the shorter boy.

"Let go Xiao,"

"No. Not until you stop hiding,"

"Why though,"

Xiao pulled away from the hug for a bit to look at Scaramouche in the eyes.

"Because. I'm here. I'm willing to listen to your problems Scaramouche,"

Scaramouche paused when he heard Xiao's words. Xiao was there for him. Really? He looked at Xiao, searching his eyes for any sort of indicator to him lying. But Xiao wasn't. He meant it. Scaramouche let out a sigh.

"Fine. You caught me Xiao," he said reluctantly.

"So what's wrong? You're clearly more than angry,"

"It's just...I don't know. My family never seem to like me. Yet they all get along so well. I'm always left out. Hah..." Scaramouche's voice trailed off.

Xiao looked at him with eyes filled with sympathy.

"So they leave you out of things,"

"Mmh. They don't care. Not my mother. Not my sisters. Not my brothers." *

"It'll get better Scaramouche. Okay,"

Xiao placed his hand on Scaramouche's cheek and looked into his eyes. Scaramouche looked back into Xiao's eyes, a feeling of love rising amongst his feelings of anger and hurt.

"Xiao."

"Yes?"

"..." Scaramouche stayed silent.

Xiao was going to open his mouth to speak until Scaramouche suddenly hugged him in a tight embrace. He made a slight noise of surprise.

"Xiao, I... You seem to just tell how I feel. How?"

"Simple. I've studied people for years. It's easy to tell how people feel,"

"So then. You must know how I feel now,"

Xiao paused and tilted his head in confusion.

"Do I?"

"You said feelings were easy," the taller boy said slightly smug, his feelings of anger and hurt dissipating.

Xiao let out a small laugh.

"I did, didn't I."

He then studied Scaramouche's face, looking closely. His eyes widened as he realised what Scaramouche was feeling. Love. Scaramouche smiled slightly, bringing his face closer to Xiao's. Xiao could feel his heart quickening and a light blush dust onto his cheeks. Scaramouche placed his hand under Xiao's chin, tilting his head to look up at him. He looked away shyly, asking Xiao non-verbally if he could kiss him. Xiao nodded slightly. Scaramouche leaned in and gently pressed his lips against Xiao's. Xiao reciprocated the kiss and kissed back softly.

"Mmh..." Xiao mumbled.

Scaramouche kissed Xiao hungrily now, desperate for his love. Xiao pulled away, panting for breath. Scaramouche smiled softly.

"Ah...that was a bit...sudden. Sorry,"

"It's fine Sca-" Xiao paused. "Did you just say sorry?"

"I did. Huh." Scaramouche thought for a bit. "Maybe that kiss just changed me."

"Maybe. Well, come on Scaramouche. You want to go get some unagi chazuke?"

"Yeah. One thing though."

"Hm?"

"I love you."

Xiao froze up at Scaramouche's words, a blush spreading across his cheeks.

"I..."

Scaramouche chuckled at Xiao before standing up.

"Come on," he said, holding his hand out to Xiao.

Xiao took his hand and stood up. Scaramouche didn't let go of Xiao's hand.

"You're not going to let go?"

"No, now lets go get that unagi chazuke."

"Okay, okay,"

They both walked away, holding the other one's hand tightly.

NOTE:

When Scara says "Not my sisters. Not my brothers." I'm referring to my own little family tree for the Raiden family. Raiden Ei, his mother, Raiden Shogun and Mo Qingxian, his older sisters and Wanderer and Kuni, his brothers, who are the same age as him. Don't ask why I a. put Mo Qingxian in the Raiden family and why Wanderer, Kuni and Scara are 3 different people.
