Chapter 6 - My New Home

Location - Shirokane Residence, Rinko's Room

Your POV

I was super happy that Rinko was willing to put up with me for a while after this whole situation from my parents. But it was kind of awkward to explain that to her mother, but she did recognize me from the piano competition from when I collapsed.

Understanding my home situation, she was kind enough to let me stay here for as long as I need to. However, I didn't want to be a burden to them. It might be a good idea to stay here until I get a place of my own.

Next, Rinko guided me to her bedroom, and I must admit, I really love the set up she has going on here, especially the piano. 

"Okay, I laid out... the extra futon out for you." Rinko said as she looks at me with a gentle smile on her face.

"Thanks, Rinko-san.." I said as I give her a gentle smile of my own.

"There's no need to... thank me." She replied before shaking her head. "You have been through enough... having to deal with your parents, and... there expectations."

She was right about that. No matter how hard I try to impress my parents, they're never please with the results I bring to the table, and they want me to be better than everyone around me.

Without realizing it, Rinko was quick to wrap her arms around me. She was hugging me, and of course, I was taken by surprise. However, the longer she hugged me, the more I felt at ease.

As she hugged me more, Rinko whispered in my ear...

"It's okay... you no longer have to suffer anymore. Just relax, and my mom and I will take care of you and your needs."

Something about Rinko's words felt very... relaxing and comforting. At that moment, I gave in and hugged her back.

After hugging for a while, we broke it off, and I looked at Rinko with a smile.

"Thanks, Rinko. I don't know how I could ever return the favor."

Rinko pondered for a moment before a gentle smile appears on her face. Did she actually want me to do something for her in return?

"Well, remember that... song you performed... at the piano competition?"

"Yeah? What about it?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Well, if you don't mind... do you think... I could hear it again?"

I guess since Rinko is letting me stay here, it's the least I can do.

"Sure. I wouldn't mind playing it."

I sat down in front of her piano, give myself a moment to collect my thoughts, and from there, I start to play the song. This is the first time anyone has asked me to play the piano rather than being forced to. I better not waste this chance.

Ten minutes later...

Once I got through playing the song, I let out a sigh of relief, knowing that I managed to make it through the whole thing... I looked towards Rinko to see what she thinks, but she wasn't saying anything at all.

"Well, what do you think?" I asked.

Rinko paused for a moment before actually saying something.

"If you ask me, I thought... the song was good, but... I can tell you were hesitanting in... some spots."

I froze in place as I heard her feedback. Well, she wasn't exactly lying about that, and I didn't think she would notice or care, but I guess that didn't work.

"Yeah, you're right about that.." I sighed.

Rinko then looked like an idea came to her head, so she walked closer to me.

"Maybe it'd be better... if you played it like it."

Rinko played the part I was struggling with, and I'll admit, this arrangement is much better than the one I was playing before. I can see why she won the previous competition.

"Wow, that... sounded better."

A small blush appears on Rinko's face.

"It was... nothing. Really." 

I don't know what it is, but seeing that blush on her face... just gives me butterflies in my stomach. It's almost too cute to look at, and I get to see that almost everyday? I guess I could get used to living here, and I hope my parents don't come looking for me...
