Minato was happy because he finally succeeded, he was finally able to defeat and seal the Kyuubi no Kitsune into his son and daughter and protect both the village and its people from their rampage and stopped the masked man's plan to destroy the village, however, that feeling changed when he felt a presence behind him.
???: Minato Namikaze, I have helped you divide and seal the Kyuubi into your children, now it is time to fulfill your part of our deal — the presence says in a hoarse voice making Minato feel chills down his spine.

Minato turns around to meet the figure behind him and he meets an evil looking being, it was the Shinigami as he had to summon him to help him seal the Kyuubi. Minato nods his head in understanding as he knew the price for summoning the being and that was his soul. The Shinigami puts his hand on Minato's stomach and was pulling out his soul but notices something is wrong.
Shinigami: WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS MINATO? THIS IS NOT YOUR SOUL! — the Shinigami shouted at the man who was looking at the god of death with a smile.
Minato: I knew the price, that's why I made a seal to replace my soul with someone else's — he said with a smile as he knew he was playing a god.

Minato returned to his home with his children only to find a panicked Kushina worried about a baby Naruto who was having trouble breathing.
