The afternoon was bathed in a gentle warmth, a soothing heat that invited relaxation. Maëlle decided to take advantage of this pleasant weather to clear her mind. Wrapped in a light jacket, she stepped into the palace gardens with her dogs, Ely and Summer, who were thrilled to run freely. As had become customary since their arrival in this foreign land, she was closely followed by Samy, the young bodyguard assigned by the king.

The gardens were a true haven of peace. Pathways lined with blooming rose bushes, beds of exotic plants, and the soft murmur of fountains created a setting bathed in golden light. Samy, vigilant yet discreet, stayed a few steps behind her, always maintaining a respectful distance that sometimes heightened Maëlle’s sense of solitude.

As she walked, Ely and Summer raced ahead, exploring the bushes and paths with boundless energy. The silence between Maëlle and Samy was broken only by the gentle rustling of leaves and the joyful barking of the dogs. Maëlle felt increasingly overwhelmed by the weight of her situation. The garden’s peaceful atmosphere contrasted sharply with the discomfort she felt from being constantly followed.

After a few minutes of walking, where only the light breeze and the dogs' playful barks broke the silence, Maëlle slowly turned towards Samy. She hesitated for a moment, searching for the right words to express her discomfort without sounding unkind.

— "Samy, I... I wanted to tell you that your presence is reassuring, truly," she began with a timid sincerity. "But I find this situation a little... strange. I usually walk alone or with my family, and I don’t really know how to act... Would you mind if we talked a bit?"

Samy, surprised by the request, straightened his posture and responded with an understanding smile.

— "Of course, Miss. I’m here to ensure your safety, but I understand that this situation might be... unusual for you." His voice was soft, almost soothing. "What would you like to talk about?"

Maëlle felt slightly relieved by his response. She continued with genuine curiosity.

— "Well... I was wondering what it’s like for you, living here in this country."

Samy thought for a moment, observing the scenery around them, then answered with a hint of nostalgia.

— "This country is a place where time seems to have stopped. Traditions run deep, and every place, every ruin, every street corner has a story." He glanced at the ancient stone walls and the majestic trees as if rediscovering them through Maëlle’s eyes. "For me, that’s the beauty of this place. There’s something very authentic here, even though modernity hasn’t fully taken over."

Maëlle smiled shyly, feeling somewhat comforted by his response.

— "I understand what you mean. It’s fascinating... but also a little intimidating. I feel like I have to learn everything, understand everything."

— "It’s normal to feel that way," Samy replied in a reassuring tone. "You’re in a country where customs and beliefs are different from what you’re used to. But I’m sure you’ll adapt."

Their steps led them along a narrow path bordered by old stone walls covered in lichen and moss, where shadows danced to the rhythm of the wind. Ely and Summer, carefree, relished the walk, exploring every corner with lively curiosity. Although still feeling a bit apprehensive, Maëlle began to relax thanks to the growing conversation with Samy.

— "Tell me, Samy, what are your favorite traditions here?" Maëlle asked, eager to learn more about the local culture.

— "There are many," Samy replied enthusiastically. "But I particularly love the local festivals. They’re filled with colors, music, and delicious food. It’s a time when everyone comes together to celebrate."

Maëlle pondered for a moment, intrigued by the prospect of experiencing these moments of community.

— "That sounds wonderful. Maybe I’ll get to attend one of those festivals someday."

— "I’m sure you’ll find the festivals fascinating," Samy agreed. "They truly showcase the essence of our culture."

The conversation continued with growing ease. Maëlle discovered that Samy was not just a bodyguard but also someone who shared her sense of wonder for the beauty and complexity of their new environment. They discussed local customs, traditional dishes, and places of interest, turning the walk into a moment of discovery and exchange.

As they returned to the palace, the sun’s rays began to fade, casting a golden glow over the lush gardens and majestic arches. Maëlle and Samy made their way to the stables, where Victor was already busy checking the horses’ gear. Ely and Summer, now tired but happy, still pranced around the horses.

Seeing Maëlle and Samy, Victor gave them a wide smile.

— "So, how was the walk?" he asked, clearly interested.

— "Very good," Maëlle replied with a smile. "Samy taught me a lot about the country and its traditions."

Victor exchanged a glance with Samy, then invited them both to join him in a final check of the equipment before dinner. The atmosphere was relaxed, and the conversation between the three continued pleasantly. Samy shared additional anecdotes about local customs and upcoming events, enriching their discussion even further.

Later, the king invited Victor and Maëlle to join him for dinner. The meal was held in an elegant dining room, bathed in soft light and adorned with sumptuous decorations. Lively conversations, bursts of laughter, and the clinking of silverware created a warm and convivial atmosphere.

The king, having heard about Maëlle’s enjoyable walk and her growing connection with Samy, expressed his satisfaction.

— "Maëlle, Victor, I wanted to thank you for your patience and open-mindedness in facing the challenges you’ve encountered," the king said with a sincere smile. "You’re adapting so well, and I’m pleased to see you starting to feel more comfortable here."

Maëlle, touched by his words, responded with gratitude.

— "Thank you, Your Majesty. That means a lot to us. We still have much to learn, but we are starting to feel more at home."

The king nodded, clearly satisfied with their response.

— "I’m glad to hear that. You’ve already made considerable progress, and it’s thanks to your determination and positive attitude. Don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any concerns or needs. I’m here to support you."

The evening continued in a lively atmosphere, with varied discussions about traditions, future plans, and personal discoveries. Maëlle and Victor, though tired from the daily challenges, found comfort and reassurance in these shared moments with the king. They felt more connected, not only to each other but also to their new reality.

As they left the dining room, Maëlle reflected on the rapid evolution of her situation. Despite the initial difficulties, she was beginning to find balance, supported by the relationships she was building and the moments of comfort that punctuated her integration. Twilight had fully settled in, and as Maëlle gazed at the stars shimmering through the palace windows, she felt filled with hope and determination for the journey ahead.
