Haerin stood outside the dimly lit garage, her foot tapping impatiently against the ground in a relentless rhythm. She glanced at her wristwatch for what felt like the hundredth time, her frustration growing as the seconds ticked by. She was late—too late for the event—and the anxious energy simmering beneath her calm exterior was beginning to bubble over.
Just as she was about to lose her composure completely, a mechanic—a middle-aged man with grease-streaked hands—approached her. In his palm lay a small, broken device, the sharp edges of its shattered parts reflecting the dull light.
"Ma'am, we found one tracker hidden in the bike. It's destroyed now," he said, his tone professional.
For a moment, Haerin stared at the broken tracker in his hand, her chest tightening with fury. Without a word, she snatched the device, her fingers curling around it with fierce determination. She threw it to the ground with all the force she could muster, the crack of it breaking under her shoe echoing in the still air.
She handed the mechanic the money with shaking hands, barely registering his thanks. She mounted her bike, the leather seat familiar beneath her but offering no comfort.
With a flick of the ignition, the engine roared to life, mirroring the storm inside her. She gripped the handlebars tightly, her knuckles white, before speeding off into the night.

"How do I look?" Dani asked, her voice a mix of anticipation and nerves as she smoothed her hands down the sleek fabric of her dress. She glanced over at Hyein, who had been munching on chips non-stop for the last ten minutes, seemingly oblivious to the gravity of the moment. Finally, Hyein shifted her attention from her snack, her eyes widening as they landed on her best friend.
"Oh my God, Dani, you look beautiful!" Hyein exclaimed, her excitement spilling over as she nearly dropped the bag of chips. Her eyes sparkled with genuine awe, taking in the sight before her.
They were in Hyein's room, the familiar space now filled with the charged energy of the big day ahead—the engagement ceremony. Dani had kept the whole thing a secret from her mother, telling her only that she'd be staying on campus for a year-long program. Knowing her mother wasn't someone who followed social media, and preferred the peace of gardening and home life, Dani was confident that her secret would remain safe, at least for now.
"Now, if you're done stuffing your mouth, we should probably get going," Dani chuckled, though her voice had an edge of urgency. "I'd rather not be late to my own engagement." She reached for her sleek Celine bag, slinging it over her shoulder with a graceful motion. The long black dress she wore hugged her body in all the right places, accentuating her curves in a way that felt both powerful and elegant. The silky fabric shimmered subtly with each movement, as if the dress itself was a part of her anticipation for the night ahead.
Hyein wiped away a fake tear, her usual playful grin creeping onto her face as she wrapped Dani in a tight hug. "I can't believe the day is finally here... the long-awaited drama!" she teased, her laughter bubbling up as she broke the hug.
Dani laughed too, swatting Hyein playfully on the arm, but inside, her heart raced. This was it. They were stepping into the unknown, into a chapter neither of them had ever imagined would unfold quite like this.
Together, they left the room, their shared laughter echoing in the hallway, a fragile thread of normalcy before the whirlwind of the night ahead.
