Normally everyone has had their fair share of weird experiences that have happened to them in their lives, but for me it's more than just a coincidence. Otherwise why does it seem to occur more to me than it does others?
I'm Bianca Morgan. I'm turning 18 this Halloween (I know it's super cool my birthday's on the same day. Halloween is also my favorite holiday) and my brother, Dakota, and I are saving up for an apartment. In order to do that, I work full time at the KFC in town while my brother (who is 16 and still in school) works only part time at the same place, but our cousin Rebecca also gives him an allowance for helping her do chores. Until then, my brother and I live with our Iná (we're Navajo and that's how we say "mom"). My father is...currently in the asylum. He's an alcoholic and drug addict and recovering in AA (only because he was court ordered) and basically went crazy while inebriated and tried to kill us. That was Iná's last straw with him after multiple fist fights and she called the cops. He went to jail for a while and when we were asked what we wanted done with him, Iná asked him to be sent away, saying she "never wanted to deal with him or risk having him hurt her children again", which I completely understood. Needless to say I developed social anxiety, PTSD and depression as a result, but the ADHD I was also diagnosed with by my therapist apparently runs in the family. That makes sense considering my brother is an absolute rebel.
Anyway, my father being an abusive asshole isn't the only strange thing to have occurred to me in my life. At work, there's this one girl who's pretty weird. Well, all of my coworkers are kinda weird but I love them nonetheless. My coworker's name is Slendrina. She's 24 but comes off like she's much older. She has long brown hair and bright blue eyes that seem to stare into my soul. She also has a nose piercing on the left side and always wears a black choker of some sort. I didn't think that was her real name but when I asked her about it she said I'd "make sense of it in due time". Whatever that means. Her response sent chills down my spine, along with many other things she did and said. I'm not one to really open up to coworkers unless I know them really well, mostly because I feel weak if I do, so when Slendrina somehow found out about the domestic abuse I had witnessed between my parents, and my father being admitted to the insane asylum, my blood ran cold. I remember asking her one day at work how the hell she knew that, that my brother and I weren't one to spread rumors, and what she said was chilling. I recall her chuckling as if there was some type of motive behind it."Oh, I know. Not many people around here to even spread any rumors. Let's just say I know someone who finds out", she had said with a hand on her hip and a mischievous smirk on her face. That night I went home anxiously thinking as to who this motherfucker was. I talked to Iná about it and she said she only told a family friend who had been helping her with the case and not to worry, that she was only trying to scare me. Maybe she was a relative of our family friend? Either way, Slendrina creeped me out. When she wasn't being an absolute weirdo though, we actually got along great and had a lot in common. We both listened to rock music and favored Halloween and Dio de los Muertos and pretty much anything dark and spooky. We also had a strong interest in astrology. She was very helpful to me as well when I first started working at that KFC, training me in areas I struggled with. The more I thought about her the more she perplexed me. She seemed normal any other time but whenever anything about me or my past trauma were thrown into the mix she acted strange, almost as if she had connections and knew more about me than she let on. I constantly think about what it could mean.
I've also noticed that throughout my life I've had strange encounters with animals. Animals have always been oddly fond of me, especially cats and rabbits, which are my favorites. I do think it's amazing that my favorite animals like to cuddle up to me as much as I do them, but when those same animals aren't so nice to my brother I start to notice. Maybe Slendrina knew something about that?
The more I think about the strange occurrences in my life the more I'm puzzled by it. I know there's a deeper meaning behind it, but what could it be?
