The days turned into weeks, and Aiden and Tank settled into a comfortable rhythm. Their bond deepened as they navigated school and their budding relationship, balancing study sessions, football practices, and the occasional movie night. Yet, as graduation approached, the excitement was tinged with anxiety about what lay ahead.

It was a sunny Thursday afternoon when Aiden received a text from Tank: **“Can we talk after school? Something’s been on my mind.”** Aiden’s heart raced at the tone of the message. He had sensed a shift in Tank’s demeanor over the past few days—a subtle worry lurking behind his bright smile.

“Sure! I’ll meet you at our spot,” Aiden replied, feeling a mix of concern and determination.

After school, Aiden made his way to the park, where they often hung out. The sun was beginning to set, casting golden rays through the trees, but Aiden couldn’t shake the sense of foreboding. He arrived at their usual bench and waited, anxiously tapping his foot.

When Tank arrived, his expression was serious, and Aiden’s stomach tightened. “Hey, thanks for meeting me,” Tank said, taking a seat beside him.

“Of course. What’s going on?” Aiden asked, his heart pounding.

Tank took a deep breath, looking out at the park as if searching for the right words. “I’ve been thinking a lot about college… and us.”

Aiden felt a lump form in his throat. “Yeah, me too. It’s a big change.”

“Right. And I want to make sure we’re both prepared for it. I’ve been applying to schools, but…” Tank paused, his brow furrowing. “What if we don’t end up at the same place?”

Aiden nodded, feeling the weight of Tank’s concerns. “I’ve thought about that too. It scares me. But I believe we can make it work, even if we’re apart.”

Tank looked at him, uncertainty etched across his face. “What if we grow apart? What if we both meet new people and forget about what we have?”

Aiden’s heart sank. He had worried about this too but hadn’t found the courage to voice it. “I don’t want that. I really care about you, Tank. I want to fight for us, no matter what.”

“I care about you too, Aiden,” Tank said softly, his voice barely above a whisper. “But I also think we should talk about what happens if we do end up at different schools.”

Aiden felt a mix of fear and resolve. “Are you saying we should break up? Because I don’t want that.”

“No! I’m not saying that,” Tank replied, his eyes wide with urgency. “I’m just trying to figure out what we should do. I don’t want to hold you back, and I don’t want you to feel trapped in this.”

Aiden took a deep breath, trying to collect his thoughts. “I want to keep trying, even if we end up apart. Maybe we could commit to being each other’s first priority?”

Tank looked thoughtful, then nodded slowly. “I’d like that. But we have to be honest with each other. If it gets too hard, we have to be able to talk about it, you know?”

“Absolutely. Honesty is key,” Aiden agreed, feeling a bit of relief.

They sat in silence for a moment, the weight of their conversation settling in the air. Aiden wanted to believe that their love could withstand the test of time and distance, but the fear of the unknown loomed large.

“Whatever happens, I want you to know that I’m all in,” Aiden finally said, squeezing Tank’s hand. “You’re important to me.”

Tank smiled, his expression softening. “You’re important to me too. Let’s make a pact. We’ll check in with each other regularly, and if things ever start to feel off, we’ll talk about it right away.”

“Deal,” Aiden said, feeling a wave of gratitude wash over him. “I don’t want to lose you.”

As they continued to talk about their future, the sun dipped lower, painting the sky in shades of pink and orange. They made plans to visit each other, share updates about school, and even take turns visiting each other’s campuses when they could.

Just as they were getting lost in their plans, Aiden’s phone buzzed again, this time with a message from Maya: **“You guys okay? I can sense a serious convo happening!”**

Aiden laughed, glancing at Tank. “Maya knows us too well.”

“Let’s not keep her in suspense,” Tank said, grinning. “You should tell her we’re fine.”

“Okay, but I’m going to tell her we’re officially doing the long-distance thing,” Aiden teased, sending a quick reply: **“We’re good! Just have a heart-to-heart about the future. Long-distance might be in our cards. 😅”**

Tank raised an eyebrow playfully. “You’re putting me on blast!”

Aiden laughed. “Just giving her a heads-up! She’ll want all the details.”

As they shared a laugh, Aiden felt lighter. Yes, there would be challenges ahead, but they were ready to face them together. The bond they shared felt unshakeable, rooted in understanding and mutual respect.

As they stood up to leave, Aiden felt hopeful for what lay ahead. No matter the twists and turns, he was committed to Tank, ready to embrace whatever the future had in store. Together, they would navigate the shifting sands of their lives, and Aiden felt grateful to have Tank by his side.
