It was a quiet evening in late spring when Tank and Zahra found themselves sitting on their balcony, the sun setting in a blaze of orange and pink. They shared a plate of takeout, the soft sounds of the city drifting up from below. The atmosphere was warm, filled with a sense of comfort and companionship.

As Zahra took a sip of her drink, she turned to Tank with a thoughtful expression. "Can I ask you something? What did you and Aiden talk about when it came to your future?"

Tank paused, his heart tightening slightly at the mention of Aiden's name. The memories came flooding back, both bittersweet and beautiful. "We had so many dreams," he began, his voice steady yet filled with emotion. "We used to talk about everything-traveling, careers, living in a city together. He wanted to make a difference, maybe work in social justice. I wanted to play professional football."

Zahra listened intently, her gaze softening. "What else?"

"We even talked about where we'd live. Aiden loved the idea of a little apartment with plants everywhere, sunlight pouring in. He wanted a space that felt alive, you know?" Tank smiled at the thought, picturing Aiden's bright spirit filling every corner of their imagined home.

"What about kids?" Zahra asked gently, sensing the depth of Tank's reminiscence.

Tank chuckled softly, feeling warmth in his chest. "Oh, we joked about it a lot. Aiden always said he wanted a big family-at least three kids. He wanted to be the fun dad, the one who took them on adventures."

"And what did you think?" Zahra probed, her curiosity genuine.

"I loved the idea," Tank admitted, a wistful smile on his face. "I could see it. Aiden would be amazing with kids. He had this way of connecting with people, making them feel seen. I knew I wanted to build a life with him."

Zahra nodded, understanding the weight of those dreams. "It sounds like you both had a beautiful vision for your future together. It's okay to hold onto that, even as you move forward."

"I know," Tank said, his voice softening. "It's just... sometimes it feels hard to let go of what could have been. But I also know that Aiden would want me to be happy. He wouldn't want me to stop living."

Zahra reached out, taking his hand in hers. "And I want you to be happy too. I want to build our own dreams together."

Tank looked into Zahra's eyes, feeling a sense of gratitude wash over him. "I want that too. I'm learning to embrace this new chapter with you. I'm ready to create our own future."

As they sat together, Tank felt a blend of hope and sadness. The memories of Aiden would always be a part of him, guiding him as he stepped into this new phase of life with Zahra.

### Flashback

The scene shifted in Tank's mind to a warm summer afternoon shortly before graduation. He and Aiden were sprawled on a grassy hill, the sun shining brightly overhead. They were surrounded by the laughter of classmates, but in that moment, it felt like they were the only two people in the world.

"Have you thought about what you want to do after high school?" Aiden asked, rolling onto his side to face Tank.

"Yeah, I have," Tank replied, propping himself up on one elbow. "I want to play football in college, maybe even go pro someday. What about you?"

Aiden smiled, a glimmer of excitement in his eyes. "I want to study social justice. There's so much work to be done, and I want to be a part of it. I want to help people, you know?"

Tank nodded, admiring Aiden's passion. "That sounds perfect for you. You've always had such a big heart."

"And you've always believed in me," Aiden replied, reaching out to squeeze Tank's hand. "I can't wait to see what the future holds for us."

"What about living arrangements? You know we should get a place together, right?" Tank teased, nudging Aiden playfully.

Aiden laughed, a light, carefree sound. "Definitely! A cute apartment filled with plants, like we always talked about. And a pet, maybe a dog? We can take turns naming it."

"I call dibs on naming the dog!" Tank declared, grinning widely.

"Fine, but I get to choose the color," Aiden shot back, their playful banter igniting a spark of joy in the air.

As they lay back, watching the clouds drift by, Aiden's expression turned serious for a moment. "Promise me we'll always support each other, no matter what happens. I don't want to lose you."

"Never," Tank replied firmly, feeling the weight of Aiden's words. "We're in this together, always."

....

The memory faded back to the present, leaving Tank with a bittersweet ache in his chest. He knew that while the future he had once envisioned with Aiden was gone, it didn't mean he couldn't honor it while forging a new path with Zahra.

As they sat on the balcony, gazing at the horizon, Tank felt a renewed sense of purpose. He would carry Aiden's memory with him as he and Zahra built their own dreams-one step at a time, hand in hand, embracing the journey ahead.
