The Pogues and I sat at the Cheatu discussing the cross and how we were going to get it from the train in Wilmington.
"Okay. So, when we went back to Tannyhill, Rafe was on the phone with Ward, and he just kept saying "My thing, this is my thing." He had to be talking about the cross." Sarah explained.
"Absolutely." Pope said.
Kie nods, "And he's coming into Wilmington tonight at eight o'clock. It's being shipped by train to Raleigh from there, but this is our chance to get it back."
"Guys." I said. They all looked at me, wondering what was so important. "Am I getting a cut?"
Kie rolled her eyes, "Are you getting a cut? You helped Rafe steal it from us."
I quickly object, "No, I helped the cross not sink to the bottom of the ocean. This conversation wouldn't have ever happened if it weren't for Rafe and I."
JJ laughed to himself. "Rafe and Scarlett, yep. The two most craziest people in the Outer Banks. Always off their rockers. You didn't do that to help us."
"That cross belongs in a museum." Pope said.
"That's what I think but Rafe has other plans. Look, his mind isn't going to change about selling it." I said.
"No this is good." Sarah said.
"How?" Kie asked.
"You get any other information?" JJ asked.
"Uh, Sarah got the cargo number." I said looking at a paper with all the detail we needed.
"Okay well, that's a start." Pope said.
"I mean they're definitely fencing that shit off as we speak. So, we should probably get a move on." JJ said.
"Scar, you hear from John B?" Pope asked.
I shake my head, "No. I mean he's probably somewhere off with our Dad. But the problem is they have the Twinkie."
"Our transportation." Pope completed. "I could ask Heyward for the truck."
"Uh, what?" JJ said. "Yeah that's gonna go well."
"I know, but we have no other options." Pope stood up.
"Okay." Kie said. "Let's just go."
Heyward ended up declining Pope about taking his truck so we were at a crossroads with what transportation we would take. Luckily Sarah worked her magic and got Topper to come along with us in his truck.
Finally we were at the railroads, Kie, JJ, Sarah, Pope, Cleo and I were standing on top of a crate, scoping out the area, "Well, there's like a thousand trains here," Kie said, gazing out at the endless rows of railcars.
"Well, we know it's car 750X on the track to Raleigh," Pope pointed out, his eyes scanning the area.
"Yeah, so now we just gotta find it," JJ added, his brow furrowed in concentration.
"Well, news flash: we're not getting out of here unnoticed with a giant cross," Kie said, rolling her eyes.
"We won't have to. We can nab it somewhere further in the country. Just gotta figure out how to stop the train," Pope responded, his voice filled with confidence.
"Right," I said.
"Leave that to me," JJ said, a mischievous glint in his eye.
"How are you gonna do that?" Cleo asked, her voice laced with skepticism.
JJ had a grin spreading across his face, "I got an uncle up in New Bern, right? When he got tipsy, he'd just throw an old chain across the tracks, just for shits and giggles. And that old little chain would stop all the train traffic in coastal Carolina," he explained.
