"Alright, are you ready for this Lillie?"
"You're on Ash. Me and Snowy are winning this for sure!"
The two Pokémon trainers stood, sizing each other up on the moonlit beach of Melemele island. The excitement in the air was so thick that Serena could taste it. It had been decided that she'd be informally judging this battle, but since it was an informal battle, that basically meant that she'd be saying 'Go'.
Speaking of which, it was probably her que now. She stepped forward from her place in between the two trainers, and raised both her arms.
"This will be a one on one battle. The battle will be over when either Pokémon is unable to battle. Are both trainers ready?"
Lillie and Ash nodded.
Serena threw down both her arms, and shouted, "Begin!"
Immediately, Lillie grabbed her sole Pokéball off her belt, touched it to her heart, then tossed it out onto the makeshift battlefield.
"I choose you, Snowy!"
The brilliant white fox Pokémon appeared in a white flash. It was amazing, really, how much of a natural Lillie was with her battling posture.
On Serena's other side, Ash was smiling. No doubt, he'd noticed the difference in his friend too. Wordlessly, he nodded to Pikachu, and the yellow mouse Pokémon leapt onto the field, already crackling sparks in its cheeks.
"Alright Snowy, start it off with a Tackle!"
The Alolan Vulpix dashed forwards, bowing its head as it gained momentum.
"Pikachu, respond with Quick Attack!"
In a flash, Pikachu and Snowy were upon each other. Their heads collided, and the two Pokémon were caught in a deadlock, butting heads in the middle of the battlefield.
"Alright Snowy, use Powder Snow on the ground!"
Serena felt a jolt of surprise go through her as Snowy's still bowed head let out a lightning fast Powder Snow, freezing Pikachu's legs within the sand below.
"Wait wha-!" Ash began to exclaim, but Lillie wasn't finished.
"Alright, now step back and Tackle! Finish it!" She said, dramatically throwing out her arm.
Snowy easily jumped back and began charging hard and fast at Pikachu, who was still struggling with his trapped legs. Serena inhaled sharply. Was Ash seriously about to lose?
"Iron Tail Pikachu!"
Serena blinked, and suddenly Pikachu was in the air. When did that-
"Alright, now a Thunderbolt on the sand!"
A bolt of lightning shot straight down, directly in front of the still charging Snowy. In a flash, the sand turned into a brilliant, shining glass formation. Snowy, not seeing it until it was too late, tripped hard over the shining and twisting glass spires.
"Now, Iron Tail straight down!"
Both Lillie and Serena gasped as Pikachu flew down through the air, its tail shining like a silver bolt of lightning.
"Chuuuuu, Pika!"
Pikachu struck down hard, sending sand and glass everywhere. When the debris finally cleared, a clearly fainted Snowy was laying on the beach. All in a single brilliant hit. Serena stood in shock for a moment before quickly snapping back to her senses.
"Snowy is unable to battle! The victory goes to Ash!"
Lillie wordlessly returned Snowy to its Pokéball, and for a moment Serena worried that they'd just scared Lillie off of battling forever. That had been a bad loss, ending in a single spectacular hit. Serena took a step forward to offer an arm of comfort to her friend, but before she could even move Lillie dashed over to Ash and planted herself in front of him.
