"Good sleep last night?" The Professor chuckled as Ash stumbled his way out of bed and down the loft.

"Muh," Ash said, pulling out a chair and promptly falling into it. The night before had been long and restless. After getting back , he'd spent a considerable amount of time training on the beach. He had to make up for the training he'd missed, after all.

"Any plans today? Are you maybe going to move a performer's worth of stuff out of my home?" The Professor said, glancing around at his unusable living room.

Ash snapped to attention. "Oh shoot, right! I gotta get those over to Lillie's place! Thanks Professor, I'll be back soon!"

Ash quickly gathered the bags and suitcases under his arms and ran out the door.

The Professor shook his head and took a sip of coffee. "I wonder if he knows that he's still wearing pajamas."

Ash made it about a kilometer down the road before he realized that he'd forgotten something very important.

His hat! Oh well. Pikachu could mess around with it for the morning.

Lillie hummed softly as she ran her brush through Snowy's soft, fine fur. On hot days like this, the small fox Pokémon's fur was comparably quite cold. Not to mention, brushing was good practice for getting over her own innate fear of touching Pokémon. It was something the Professor had suggested, something about taking continuous action... she couldn't remember exactly, the blonde girl just knew that it felt good, and helped.

"So, why is your Vulpix always out of its Poké ball?"

Lillie paused her brushing for a second before she answered. "Well, Snowy doesn't actually have a Poké ball."

"Really?" Serena said. The honey-blonde girl had already gotten dressed for the day and was scrolling through information about Melemele island on her tablet. "Why not?"

Snowy turned around and gave Lillie a look. This was a conversation that she and the fox Pokémon had already had several times. Lillie sighed and gave the same answer she always did.

"Because I want Snowy to always have the choice to leave if she wants. Having her tied to a Poké ball would take that choice away."

Serena glanced at Lillie, then Snowy, then back to her tablet. "What does Snowy think about that?"

Below her, the fox Pokémon gave Lillie an angry little look. Just last week, Snowy had practically dragged Lillie over to a stand that was selling Poké Balls on their way back home from school.

"I have no idea," Lillie lied.

"Hm," Serena said, and after a few seconds of looking contemplative, she got up and started rooting around her bag. Figuring that the conversation was done, Lillie went back to brushing Snowy, who was now sulking somewhat.

"Here, catch."

Thunk.

Lillie turned her head just in time to see a black object smack her right between the eyes. Instantly, she cried out and started rubbing her head with her hand.

"Oh my gosh I'm so sorry, are you okay?" Lillie opened her slightly watery eyes to see a very worried Serena. When she nodded, the girl let out a small sigh of relief before reaching down to pick up what she'd thrown over.

"What was that thing?" Lillie asked, feeling for any kind of mark on her face. There was nothing there, thank Arceus. She'd hear an earful from mother if anything happened to her face.
